Another delightful Romance from the master of the genre
Teddy Sharp from Doncaster starts work as a trainee butler at the vast Scottish estate of the ailing Commander McCrea. And from that premise Anthony McDonald weaves another of his lovely, gentle stories. As usual the text is glowing, almost poetic and conveys the feel of the various locations so vividly you can almost feel the mud of Seven Springs Wood oozing up between your toes.Of course there is sex here but in this story it handled delicately and.. well... romantically. The love affair that grows across class divides is absorbing and the characters are engaging. This book could not be more different from the the brash gallop that was McDonald's previous romp "Gay Romance at Cambridge" and is a warm, cozy armchair of a book that will make even the most hardened reader go all gooey.

A light read with a fanciful plot
This is a well-written gay romance, set in Scotland, in which two young guys from different backgrounds meet and fall in love. The plot’s a bit fanciful so you’ll need to suspend disbelief. It’s cheesy, but fine for a light holiday reading. Not one of the author’s finest books.

Perfect bed-time reading
Anthony keeps coming up with something different and his books are a compelling read – this one being no exception. We are carried along gently as the story unfolds and are subtly encouraged to fall in love a little bit with his characters. Differences of class, background, wealth, education etc. are dealt with sensitively. As usual I was left not wanting the story to end just when I was getting to know and love the main protagonists….surely there is a sequel here – as with some of his other stories?

Scottish dependence and a whole new take on the act of union.
I think the secret of Anthony McDonald's success in captivating the reader is the certainty of a happy outcome but with realistic (and of course sexy and appealing) characters, a lively but lifelike plot, acute observation of emotion, brilliant evocation of atmosphere - and plenty of hot action.

A love storey for Gay men
I likable read, possibly a bit too good to be believed even as fiction, will pass the time on a rainy day in Scotland.

barely believable
A little weak barely believable boy meets boy novel. Not Mr Macdonald at his finest.

As usual the author delivers
As in all the writers books it allows you to get to know about the subjects and is a good novel.Would enjoy him writing about being gay in a working class area.
