Bioinformatics with Python Cookbook: Use modern Python libraries and applications to solve real-world computational biology problems

この本の第2版は『バイオインフォマティクス: Pythonによる実践レシピ』の書名で邦訳が出ていて、そちらのレビューに書いたこととも少し被りますが、円安の最中に安くはないこの第3版を買ったので、こちらにも(特には第2版との違いについて)少しレビューを書かせてもらいます。 前記の邦訳のp.243-245でPySparkの環境構築の説明がありますが、今のSparkは3系だそうなのでPySparkについても書き直しされているのではないかと思ってこの第3版を買ったわけですが、Sparkの文字はDaskと併記される形で一番最初と一番最後に出てくるだけでPySparkの文字はどこにもありません。Daskで充分だということなのかも知れませんが事情は分かりません。 また第2版では系統解析の章でEbolaを題材に取り上げていて、時節柄第3版ではSARS-Cov-2を題材にしているのかとも思いましたが流石にEbolaのままでした。ですが第3版で新設の第2章に｢COVID｣の文字があって良く見たらVAERSを第2章の題材にしていたので著者のTiagoはやはり只者ではなさそうです。

Wish the publisher had tested all the code before going to press. For example, the Uniprot API and query fields were updated in June 2022 and this 3rd edition, published in September 2022, has the same code from the 2015 first edition.

Several pages are misprinted (alignmrnt errors) the book constantly warps. Colored illustrations are printed in black and white. it would have been cheaper to get the digital edition and print it myself.

The explanations need clarification, and the code has errors and doesn't work. The content of the book was not helpful to me. There are better resources in bioinformatics.
