Good but not essential
It's a good book, but it is not essential for domestic clicker training (which is the reason why I bought this book). On the one hand, it teaches the basics of clicker training in a good and understandable way, and also the principles behind it. Understanding the principles seems very important since it is the best way to come up with good decisions. Besides, it is easy to read and all information conceiled is good.On the other hand, the material presented could be extended in a way that you can figure out how to deal with real situations. I realize that it is difficult to cover all possible cases (because there are endless of them), but it will help a lot explaining real-world cases in which the trainer has to deal with a difficult situation with in a clever way.

An introduction only
A bit of an uneven book, with its references to dolphin clicker training. What is good about it is that it introduces the dog owner to the principles behind clicker training and the proper timing of using the clicker. It was fine on basic training with a dog, but I'm not sure how many owners want to teach a lot of tricks to their puppy. I dont. You'll probably find out more on the Karen Pryor's website and other trainers' clicker tips on Youtube. Having said all that, it definitely is an effective training method and has got my puppy off to a flying start. At 11 weeks he already pees and poos to order, will "leave" stuff he shouldnt be nibbling, and has made a great start on walking on a loose lead.

A GREAT TRAINING BOOK!
Originally a friend loaned my the book and there is such a lot of information in it I wanted my own copy.It is REALLY interesting and everything is laid out stage by stage in a friendly way. It explains the reasoning behind clicker training and why each stage is important.AND it WORKS!! I am a dog walker and find each dog responds brilliantly to the 'click and treat' and it is good for MY business to see the dogs I take care of, sitting round me, ignoring everything around them, awaiting a treat!A positive training method which the dog enjoys...what could be better...A very good, thought provoking book..well worth the price.Hope this helps

Clicker Training for Dogs
The book was valuable inasmuch as it removed some misconceptions and set out a training programme to be followed which appeared to to make good sense. I have already started the programme with my very recently acquired black lab, and he seems to be responding well. I have not compared the book with any other publication, I have no unanswered questions on the subject, I do not have room for a Dolphin, but apparently the method works well with that animal.

Good easy read
Good easy read. Covers the training method very fully - ideal if you just want the basics clearly laid out.For more information on animal training methods, including most of the detail in this book, buy "Don't Shoot The Dog" by the same author.... It's a very interesting, entertaining, enjoyable read, with loads of funny stories which really bring it to life.

An easy read that clearly explains Clicker Training
We have an older dog and a new puppy. The older dog has some bad habits that I want to remedy and I also want to set the puppy off on a good footing.I bought 2 clickers (one for me, one for the wife) at the same time as this book. After a very short time I started seeing the puppy and the older dog responding well to the method. What is good about the book is that it encourages a patient attitude to the training and, although the first steps were quick in my case, lets you understand that the pace of learning can vary with individual owners and dogs.

Waffles on
Waffles on to much. I thought this would be an easy step by step guide but it goes on and on....

Useful
Good book but was advised to use a whistle instead to train.
