Great
I bought this about 3 years ago after much consideration as he cost was a lot to me at that time. However I was eager to have an under water camera as we had started to holiday a lot and was missing great photo and video opportunities. For underwater recording I found the GoPro to be fantastic. The images attached underwater were from this year in Barbados (I know the turtle photos are amazing!!). When under the water it can be tricky to see the GoPro screen - You usually learn to just click and point as the angle is wide so it will catch where the lens is pointed.I do find that the photo quality however is not that good and so we tend to use our iPhones when out of water to take photographs. We find that if you are using it to take photos and short videos all throughout the day (as you do on holiday) then it would require daily charging. You can buy an additional battery but we havnt done as it can be expensive.Waterproof case hasn’t failed so far and we have scuba diver up to 18 metres (although it did power off at this depth- but powered back on when in more shallow water). Not sure if it can’t handle that depth one if ours perhaps has a fault now.Anyway would definitely recommend this GoPro !Ps you can buy the additional float handles , self stick handles quite cheap. We didn’t purchase the gopro ones as they were expensive

Lots of new features
Noticeable improvement over the Hero 4 Black, faster boot time, image stabilisation, onboard hi-def touch screen, waterproof without additional housing, voice control, GPS for telemetry (speed, location, G force which can be overlaid during editing with Quik) AND improved battery life. The 5 is a departure from the form of the 3, 3+ and most recently Hero 4 Black. The 5 is now a dark grey (rather than silver) and the original housings do not appear to be compatible, even though the lens part of the 5 can be detached/ replaced.Connection is now via a USB C cable which still has a mini HDMI socket below it for direct connection to a TV. The waterproof door can be fully removed if you need to keep it supplied with power during use.The camera ships with a frame style mount which will suit most applications, however this offers no impact protection (think flying stones when attached to the exterior of a car) and although the lens has a replaceable cover/ glass, the front screen does not. I think the dive housing or equivalent is a necessary investment if externally mounting the camera. 2 sticky mounts, a low profile base clip and short USB-C cable are included too.The touch screen is a great addition as it not only is it very high quality, it makes setting changes a doddle, framing shots and reviewing footage it also contains a video user manual which makes it very user friendly if it's operated infrequently. The camera seems to boot up and respond to commands quickly.I can't comment on memory card compatibility for this model but all earlier ones have had issues when using "cheap" memory cards- camera locks up, doesn't operate, etc. I have since only used the endorsed Lexar or SanDisk High speed micro SD cards and haven't had any issues.Overall I'm very pleased with the Hero 5 Black and can't see any reason I'll be using my Hero 4 going forward!

Well worth the upgrade!
Excellent camera! as Ive come from a 3+. Upgraded firmware on delivery and much better video quality. The screen menus are clear and easy to use (I use It with Protune enabled), good for Nightlapse videos, microphones are sensitive and a good range of video options if you take it out of auto.Small, compact and easy to set up. I use with a 64gd Sandisk MicsoSDXD Class 10 U3 card and it works perfectly. Battery life so far about 1 hour although I've ordered second but tend to use with a USB power pack for longer recordings. Image stabilisation excellent if used in the modes that support it (not 4K) but I shoot mostly at 1080.Synced it with iphone and used the bluetooth option. Tuned the camera off and 8 hrs later I still at 94% battery.Highly recommend - just learn how to use it properly.
