"Im Spartacus"
Player one:"Im Spartacus"Player two: "no Im Spartacus"Player on and two: *reveals card*Player two: "holy crap I am Spartacus YAY!"so welcome to Mascarade the game where you know who you are then don't and its anyone's guess who anyone is by the time its their turn again.players in Mascarade start with six coins and a randomly dealt character card. Characters stay face up just long enough for players to more or less memorize them, then are turned face down. The goal is to be the first player to hold 13 coins, and while you start nearly halfway to that goal, you can go down just as surely as you can go up!On a turn you take one of three actions:1) Announce your character: Claim the power of a certain character and take the associated action. You don't have to have that character card in front of you to take this action, but if someone else says that they're that character and reveals the card to prove it, that player takes the action instead while you lose one coin to the tribunal.2) Swap cards or not: Take another player's character card along with yours, place them under the table, shuffle them around a bit, then give one card back to the other player while keeping one for yourself. You (presumably) know whether you changed characters and can have some idea of who you are now, but that other player might be in the dark.3) Secretly look at your character: Look at your character card to make sure of who you are.Play continues until one player obtains 13 coins and wins! This is a confusing but fun game, if you swap cards or look at your card someone may then swap your cards with another player and mess up all your plans... There are so many ways to mess with other peoples plans to stop them winning while building up you pile of coins. It gets the better the more people you play with. I suggest playing with at least 6 people but its better with 8 or more.

Great so far. Looking forward to more
I write this having only having played 5 two player games, but with three different people It is intended to offer a small alternative to the reviews saying 5 + players (or more) are required to make it worthwhile or best.I am looking forward to that and I dont dispute it is great at that....everyone says so!At 2 players the game is not so chaotic, but becomes a fairly tight game of memory/bluff and double bluff and provides quite the intense experience between a couple of competitive players. It really is good provided that appeals. Its clear the game therefore offers a different experience at lower player counts.Quality wise the cards are great. I have just ordered some sleeves though as I agree that damage will be an issue and the nature of the game increases this possibility. The alternative is not to let anyone else touch them. They are lovely so I strongly considered this, but....... !If you like idea it is simple to play, looks great, doesn't cost the Earth and is easy to learn and teach. Its quick to play too so good as a starter to a game night or an after dinner laugh..... just less so with two cos you will be staring at each other wondering what the hell your opponent has done and what tatics to try to employ to win.Update. After numerous 2 and 3 player games this is easily my favourite of these small starter games like coup etc. Although it appears against the general flow I think 2 player is excellent. Tense and poker like in regards bluffing. (I dont actually play poker!). Get this game.

Ingenious game, great fun for parties/groups
This is a brilliant game. My son got it for Christmas so we played it in a large family group. At the start of the game, you are given a character card (king, queen, judge, peasant, etc), which you have to memorise and then place face down on the table. Each character has a specific "power", such as receiving money from the bank, or taking money from other players, and the player who first acquires a certain number of coins is the winner. On your turn, you can claim that you have a particular card, and if nobody challenges you, you can use that character's power to increase your wealth. But if your character has a weak power, you can choose to swap your card with that of another player. All the swapping is done in secret (so only the swapper knows if they have actually exchanged the card or not) and it quickly becomes very difficult to keep track of the cards. The cards are revealed from time to time if one player claims a power and another player challenges them - hilarity ensues, as you discover that you are the witch when you thought you were the king.

I would recommend this game to my friends and you!!
This game was AMAZING !!!I really enjoyed playing this game with my group of family and friends. You need a group of 5 to really have a lot of fun and it's amusing how quickly you lose track of the cards.I watched several youtube video's on this game before buying it and I really was not disappointed. The group I played in were all 18+. I played this game about 4 to 5 times in a row. The games are relatively short. There is a version of this game for 3 and 4 players but I am not expert enough yet to play these versions.I would recommend this game to my friends.I would recommend this game to you if you group of 5 are willing to try a game that is different.Always difficult to get everyone to sit down and concentrate but this game was well worth the effort.

Super fun and easy.
Rad game. Played it a tone of times at society meeting and and house party's and can't recommend it enough for its simplicity and pick up and play capabilities.Super quick to get going and and even quicker to pack up. The only thing that take up time is people insisting on reading all the rules. Can be easily explainable with very little fuss.Bought a set for taking home to play with the family.Don't forget to get the expansion though, adds so much more variation to each game and allows for games of 20+.One complaint, cards are pretty flimsy and need some card protectors to assure them a longer life. Don't want them getting marked or bent when the game relies on people not know what each one could be.
