REVIEWMueller SP-968Overall: *****Disclosure. this review was written in response to the manufacturer's free offer. It is however completely independent.MeI have average manual strength (male), have never used a spiraliser before, am generally OK working with tools.Customer ServiceYou get an e-mail with the spiraliser with e-book of bonus recipes, youtube operating instructions video, check back in one week with FAQ.First ImpressionsThe spiraliser is quite easy to set up first time and once you have done it once it is obvious how to do it again and very quick. WARNING: you need to remove the slider unit before trying to stick it onto a surface - this is the opposite order from that shown in the instructions. It is a neat and well put together unit with integral storage for the blades which works nicely. The blades have nice legends on the handles which make it easy to select the correct blade. It does not require great force to remove the current blade from the unit, but you need to do this with two hands, one each side. It is in fact easy once you have found the correct technique, and near impossible without this.UsageI cannot compare this with other spiralisers, because I've never used them. Its ergonomics in use are good, and the build quality is also good. It works, and is easy and fast to use. The vegetables that come out are quite easy to catch in a bowl though you get a small amount of spill unless the bowl is exactly the right shape. So far it has been quick to wash - the blade unit and slider in running water and the rest with a cloth. It folds up into a very neat storable bundle. Folding/unfolding takes a little while to get used to and then is very quick. When cutting denser vegetables you need to make sure that the suction caps are properly fixed. On a laminated (slightly rough) worktop they can slowly slide when there is too much pressure. I can get round this by holding the slider and spiraliser with thumb and fingers - maybe someone with smaller hands would rely on the suckers more, but this is not in any case a big problem.

Simply perfect and usable gadget!
I'm often nervous of buying these sort of gadgets. Like everyone else I have a drawer full of bits that never get used, but this one is truly great! If you are dieting you can make vegetables more 'accessible' (if that makes sense). I use it for courgettes to make courgette spaghetti and for carrots. It is very easy to use (unlike the mandolin that sliced my thumb off - is there anyone out there who has not sliced off a piece of their anatomy on a mandolin?) My daughter has a learning disability and she loves it! She put it together without hurting herself and had so much fun making vegetable spaghetti - perfect for the Banting diet. It's easy to clean too. The pieces come apart without trouble and just need a rinse under the tap. There are no difficult to reach places. It stores very nicely with the sharp bits going in a handy plastic space below. The blades are easy to change and the choice of blades is just right for the different thicknesses and shapes I want to cut. I love the little sucker feet that stick to the counter top and make it a doddle to wind the handle and watch the veg curl out of the end. We had some fun working this gadget and I would highly recommend it. I think the price is very fair for the great quality of it. The customer service is superb. I received free recipes on the email and several anxious requests to tell the manufacturer if I was happy with everything. The answer is yes - I am! I simply love this gadget and am going to buy another one for my other daughter's birthday. She is a real foodie and will love it too.

Worked better with soft vegetables, less successful with hard vegetables
For health reasons I am attempting a healthier diet. I have opted for a version of the Paleo diet. This is low carb so I am cutting out pasta, bread and rice and I am substituting much more fruit and vegetables. A spiraliser seemed like a good idea as I wanted to try vegetable "pasta", for example courgetti. This spiraliser was reasonably priced. The various parts all fit neatly into a box which can be tucked out of the way into a kitchen cupboard. I couldn't be bothered constantly assembling it and then dismantling it, so I leave it assembled on the worktop and only remove the parts which need washed (these can be washed in a dishwasher). My first complaint is that I found the instructions quite unclear. The photos were quite "fuzzy" and generally lacking clarity. My main problem was with inserting the blade. I could not work out how to insert it but after a great deal of trial and error, it suddenly snapped into place. However, when I next used the spiraliser (about 3-4 days later) I had exactly the same problem! I eventually got the hang of it. I found it was much easier to spiralise soft vegetables than harder ones. For example, courgettes spiralised really well. Sweet potatoes also spiralised quite well although it was much harder work. However, I found it impossible to spiralise butternut squash - it was simply too hard. If I continue to use the spiraliser on a frequent basis, I may invest in an electronic version which may be more powerful and might work better with hard vegetables such as butternut squash. Overall, however, this spiraliser was reasonably priced and is a good starter if, like me, you are new to spiralising.

Good value and fun kitchen tool
I purchased this spiralizer as part of my efforts to do a keto diet for my family. We also like to make a lot of pickled vegetables so the spiralizer will make quick work of julienne carrots and radish for this purpose. This spiralizer is wonderful to make zoodles. I use the coarse shredder blade for this. I feel like the finer blades break the spirals up too much. For julienne carrots and daikon to make pickles, I use the angel hair blade. This also works well and really is a time saver. I enjoy the very smooth operation of the slider and handle cranking. The blades are sharp so it feels really effortless, even on the harder vegetables. However, I also tried the spiralizer to make tornado fries for my kids (similar to those sold at the fairs). For this, I feel disappointed. There is no attachment blade that provides a plain spiral that is thick enough for fries. The plain spiral blade is only 3mm thick, which creates too thin a spiral for fries, the result is more like potato chips than fries. I think there needs to be a 5mm or 6mm spiral blade. Because the blades are proprietary to this unit, I cannot find one that would suit my purpose. I would happily purchase a thicker spiral blade or other “accessory blades" if they are offered, to make this spiralizer more useable to me..Build Quality of the spiralizer:The blade attachments are well made, and the blades are very sharp. I appreciate the very little effort required to slice through hard vegetables like carrots. The area where I wish could be improved is the upright part where the plastic handle attaches. This piece holds up the entire weight of the vegetable until you can push it into the blade. It feels a bit flimsy when turning and I am afraid it might break at some point. If this piece were made of metal, or designed so it is a bit thicker, I would feel it would be more durable. Also, the spikes on the end of this part, where you attach your vegetable sometimes does not hold the vegetable well and I have to make several attempts to attach the vegetable before it falls off before I can push it fast enough into the blade. I think if these spikes were a little longer and made of metal, that would help hold the vegetable better.Design of the spiralizer:I really like the blade storage that is incorporated into the design. It makes it convenient and keeps everything in one place. I also love that I can fold up the spiralizer compactly into a box for storage and not lose any parts. The thing that I don’t like is that there are indentation tabs on either side of the slider that prevent the vegetable slider from being pushed all the way into the blade. It makes it too difficult to slice enough of the vegetable. If I use the spiralizer for a smaller potato for example, I end up with a large chunk at the end that cannot be spiraled. This causes undue food waste.Overall, I like the spiralizer a lot and get good use out of it. I wish there were blade accessories as mentioned above in order to make thicker cut fries.

So much fun!
While this product isn’t the easiest to use, I really enjoy it!You have to hold it down while using it and it isn’t the easiest thing to clean but I can’t imagine any spiralizer being easy to clean. It’s also difficult to get some vegetables positioned. Carrots for example: if you buy the thin store bought carrots it’s difficult to get going. But the fat carrots at the farmers market are no problem.I’m general I’m very satisfied with my purchase. My favorite thing to make is carrot salad. My family enjoys eating it because it makes the carrots so thin and they can be used like a slaw. We even put the carrot salad on hotdogs and it’s wonderful!
