Q: Would something like this work for a scooter? The wheel is about an inch in width and goes 10 inches before the board widens.

It could quite possibly work. It will depend on the hub. For a 10" wheel, the hub will only be about 5-7" up from the ground. Depending on the thickness of the tire/wheel this may work well.

Q: Why is this thing so tipsy? Very hard to assemble. I don't trust my $5,000 bikes in this stand. Please advise.

I thought the same at first. Here are a few tricks. 1) use the stand to support the front tire. It works significantly better than using it to support the rear. 2) Also, make sure the flat side of the brace is facing out. There should be a slight V shaped channel where the front tire rests. 3) tighten the supports so that they are tight against the wheel itself. 4) last but not least.....remember that is cost you about $20. I also support an expensive bike with the stand. I bring it with me on outdoor rides, so the bike isn't resting against the car while getting ready. It also works well if you have your bike in a hotel room (the night before a race. Think of it as a temporary stand, not a permanent fixture and you will be super happy. I have gotten a lot of use out of this stand, and so have many of many training partners. If it disappeared, I would buy another one.

Yes, the sides are adjustable to a wider width tire.

Q: How can I get the nut to fit on the bolt? There is not enough room to maneuver it over the bolt.

Turn the nut over. One side of the nut has a camfer (or rounded edge) and the other does not (because it has a squared edge). The plastic part provides an opening for the edge with a camfer.
