Disney fans will love this - but don't expect to discover much brand new information
A preview of this book I read prior to its release likened it to Disney Dossiers: Files of Character from the Walt Disney Studios , a book released in 2007 that featured fact files on many Disney characters. That preview was indeed accurate; Disney Villains: Delightfully Evil is a great reference guide of Disney Villains. The book is divided into different chapters such as 'Oh So Vain' and 'All In The Family', detailing the Villains that fall into each category. On average, each Villain has one or two pages devoted to them. These pages include information such as the release date of the film they featured in and their voice artist, as well as a couple of paragraphs exploring the Villain further. For anyone after a real insight into the Villains, they are unlikely to find it here as the paragraphs are so brief. The pages however are filled with many brilliant pictures such as film stills, concept art and animation drawings. More well known and popular Villains have a couple of extra pages devoted to them (Ursula has 4 pages) but bizarrely Stromboli, the Coachman, Gideon and Honest John (the Villains from Pinocchio) are all crammed onto one page.Weirdly a few Villains seem to have been missed out entirely, or only mentioned very briefly. The ones that stuck out for me were Zurg from Toy Story 2 and the Hyenas from the Lion King, neither of which have a page devoted to them. However, Disney fans will love the pages devoted to much less well known Villains such as Butch the Bulldog from some Pluto cartoons, Brom Bones from 'The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr Toad' and Aconcagua, a villainous mountain from 1943 film 'Saludos Amigos' apparently! Another highlight for me in the book was the guide to attractions at Disney Parks that feature Villains.Overall a fantastic book that I would recommend to Disney fans, with some great pictures. Just don't expect to learn a lot of brand new information about the Villains.
