Intended for long term use, but NO long term reliability
I purchased a large quantity of these lids and gaskets (over $300 worth) early 2022 after having a hard time finding disposable metal lids in stores.Beyond the high failure rate of initial seals out of the canner (and explosions within the canner, and the resulting food loss), at time of publishing this review I have had 5 jars randomly unseal in my pantry. In all 5 cases, the lids were very much sealed when I put them in the pantry. I did not stack them or store with rings, and they did not get bumped. All of the jars unsealed after a minimum of a month, and at least one was after over six months of storage. When I emailed Harvest Guard to express my frustration and concern, they sent me back some “helpful tips” that I might like to try. Problem is, I had already read all of the blog posts and watched all of the videos. I was already practicing those “helpful tips”, because my canned food is very important to me and I reduce all chance of failure as much as possible. This is food that I have lovingly and painstakingly grown in my garden, and I don’t take that lightly. When I asked Harvest Guard about a satisfaction guarantee, they replied that “we are past the point of being able to do any returns/refunds”. As I told them in response, this shows to me very clearly that they do not stand behind their product long term, when long term is what their product is intended for.How would I know within their return window (whatever that is, as I couldn’t find it listed on their website) that my jars would unseal MONTHS later for reasons of which they can give me no explanation? After I said that I would share my experience with others, the customer service rep did say that they would forward the email thread to the CEO, but that it would likely be a week before I heard anything. That was nearly 3 weeks ago, and yes, I did follow up multiple times. The customer service is extremely lacking, which may be fine if the product could stand on its own. It can’t.Buyer beware. I am taking my business back to the reliable Ball and Kerr metal lids.
