A quick cheap replacement for a broken clip.
I took my car in for an oil change. I took it to a local quick change place has always done a decent job. This time I didn't recognize anyone working there. They were still friendly but the kid who opened the hood and dropped the hood prop didn't open it properly. He just pulled and broke it. Then when they tried to put it back he looked dumbfounded about why it wouldn't clip back in. I got the "leaders" attention and asked about it and he lied to my face and told me it was broken when I got there. Ugh. I won't be going back there again. But it meant I needed a replacement. So off to Amazon I went not even knowing what it was called. Up came this item, the price was right, and I bought it. 2 days later it was at my house, it was in one piece, and it was ready to go.Removal of the broken part was the hard part. As you face the car there is a screw on the right. I took it all the way out. (Which was a small mistake...) On the left is a small box like area that goes up into the metal of the hood of the car. There are 2 small springy bits of plastic that lock it in place. One facing the front of the car and the other back. I used a small pocket knife blade tip to shift one clear while pulling just a bit, and then did the other side. With both out it felt like it should come out but it was still pretty wedged in there. I put the screw back in just a bit. Then used it with a pair of channel locks to get some leverage to pull and it came right out.Even with having to pause to put the screw in just a bit this whole process took at most 2 minutes. Then installation of the new one is no issue at all. I snapped in place. The springy retaining bits locked into place and the screw went right in.It works perfectly. It is a great simple fix to an annoying potentially dangerous problem. I could be wrong about it being dangerous but honestly a metal rod hanging down into the engine just didn't seem like a very good idea at all.I would recommend the part and the seller. Time will tell how durable it is. But just from handling and installing it I would say it will be fine. Until the next oil change tech does it wrong. If that happens I will buy another one of these and be all set to go.

Exact fit
Might want to get a couple of them since it is subjected to under hood temperatures and become brittle with age.

Perfect!
The hood prop clamp fit perfectly--make sure you have something sturdy to pop out the old one. I didn't have a plastic prying tool, but a sturdy plastic kitchen tool worked well.

A Perfect Fit
In eighteen years this is the second time I have replaced this item. No too bad considering all the heat that exists in the engine compartment over the hundreds of thousands of mile driven. Very easy to install.
