WHAT A DIFFERENCE THIS MADE FOR OUR CAT - THE SAGA Start to Finish
We are SO pleased with this collar! About 6 weeks ago, our cat just suddenly began itching, scratching and biting off all his hair on his left side, and also biting parts of his body. We first thought it might be fleas even though he's an indoor cat and we didn't see any.FLEAS? NO - BUT So our first step was to tackle that potential problem with the Peppermint and Clove Oil we purchased off Amazon, plus daily deep vacuuming of the carpet and bedding, etc. He still was scratching, and we still couldn't find any fleas.VET? Took him to vet. $400 later ( Vet visit, hydrocortisone shots, shot updates (due anyway), exam, fungal culture, plus this horrible STIFF PLASTIC CONE for his head so he couldn't scratch). OMG _- this poor baby so hated this cone the vet gave him and it had these horribly stiff tabs by his neck to hold the gauze to tie it on. He drooped his head, looked horrible, wouldn't hardly move, eat or drink -- it was a nightmare.) Then came another $100 to the vet for the 3 months of Revolution and a $45 shampoo from the Vet and lots of time invested in the cat while we took the hood off so he could eat, drink, try to play and keep him from scratching himself while it was off.) Fungal culture negative. The shampooing seems to have helped a bit to EASE the itching he felt, but didn't stop the problem.THIS COLLAR -- No it's NOT the cure to his ITCH problem -- but we purchased this collar and WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE in him -- At first he still dropped his head when he walked like he did with the other vet plastic collar, but he quickly adjusted and it was SO obvious that within an hour, he was MUCH happier with this collar. It's lighter and it doesn't pinch him on the neck. It's obvious he is SO MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE. It's about 1" LONGER from neck to end than the other one so he had to get used to that, but he adjusted quickly and seemed to be able to play much better. And its wonderful when he goes to sleep. He can just lay down, stretch out, and just lay out his head comfortably. Yes its true what some of the other reviewers have said -- this collar could have more snaps. Our cat is 14 lbs and has a 9 1/2" neck so we got the Medium size, and it's a bit lose on one snap and a bit too tight on the other, but bottom line it works, and is easy to take of and put on without undoing the snaps. HE IS SO MUCH HAPPIER WITH THIS COLLARUPDATE GOOD NEWS AND PROBABLY CAUSE OF THE ITCHING -- I asked a Cashier at Petsmart if she knew of anything in the store to help our cat - and she told me to try to change his food. (That would have been the next step the vet said he would take). She said her cat had gone thru the same thing and after hundreds of dollars with a vet, she learned her pet had an allergy to "Corn". She put her cat on a corn free diet - SIMPLY NOURISH SOURCE Grain Free diet (I think this is Petsmarts brand) -- I chose the Fish and Chicken Recipe. It's now 4 days later, and today he is SOOOOOO Much happier, his coat is just beginning to feel soft again (it got quite ragged), and the irritation that he had around his nose is almost gone. We took the collar off last night for several hours and again this morning, and he didn't bite or scratch himself hardly at all, just lots of regular licking to clean himself. This morning his eyes are bright again, he is playful, and almost back to being like he was before all this started. I THINK THIS FOOD IS WORKING and we'll know more over time. Next time I'll get him the Chicken Recipe only in this brand (minus the Fish) as I've since learned the 3 most common food allergens for cats are Beef, Milk products, Fish followed by certain grains like corn or gluten. And I've learned these allergies can develop after long term use of a food, so maybe this is what's happened.IN THE MEANTIME, till we know for sure, he has THIS collar which he is very happy with, and we are so thankful for this collar. THANK YOU ALFIE PET for supply this. It made a BIG difference for our cat as he's going through this problem.

Sizing off
Seems like a great cone, but my dog's neck is 9 1/2 inches and I got the medium...which should fit 8 1/2 to 10 1/4....and it is way too big.

Good choice for my cats!
Clear, soft and secure cone for whenever my cats need one recovering from injuries or such. My 10 year old tends to overgroom himself (we've tried everything!) so I ordered a new one for him and he wears it off & on, tolerating it well. Nice soft gingham fabric around the neck. Easy to clean.

not functional for my cat
was not true to size. measured cat's neck, which should have been toward the end of size range. instead was at beginning.. and too big in actual use. while it seemed to fit neck, cat could still force it off. however, there was no more adjustment since was at beginning of range.. i.e. for that size and bigger. short story should have went with a smaller size even though specs were too small for my cat.within 2 minutes cat got his front paw hung in the neck portion of the collar. this is a definite problem and unacceptable.next.. the pretty cloth trim WILL get soiled. should have been a plastic material. humans may think the cloth more comfortable, but a cat will not notice. but i guess they won't notice the dirty material either.there is no closure mechanism on the cloth part of the collar. the velcro is only on the clear plastic bell. this is one reason a determined cat will be able to get a properly sized collar off.the bell of the collar is too big for most cats. it will droop to the floor and cat will bulldoze his way along. it does not need to be as big as it is to stop the cat from reaching the problem areas. the excessive size will cause the cat to get wedged between miscellaneous obstacles.i would have like to have seen a three inch rigid cuff that the bell part flared out from. this would prevent hind leg scratching of the neck. as is, the cat can still scratch his neck, just beneath the lower portion of the collar.there are remedies i could have constructed to work with this collar, but with the high price, that should not have been necessary. so i returned for refund.i ended up fashioning a 10" round piece of vinyl flooring (could use any thin flexible plastic material) and attached via zip ties to a cottage cheese container with bottom cut off. just cut a hole in center of round piece of vinyl flooring to just fit around cat's head. cut it small enough that you have to just force it around the cat's head. then the cat will not be able to get it off. just remember it will go on easier than it will come off, so allow for this.the cottage cheese container portion makes a protective cuff that protects the neck down to the shoulders. he wont be able to scratch his neck. the round vinyl just attaches to this with the zip ties. . 10min tops to make. looks ridiculous, but works. the cat will be able to eat and drink while wearing since device is flat, and not belled like the alfie . resembles a jester's collar. if he can't eat and drink, you will need to cut your vinyl in a smaller circle pattern for your cat's needs. too small though, and he will be able to reach his back lower leg and foot. i lucked out at 10 inches. you will have to experiment. start at 12" and go from there. it will be a balance between being able to eat and drink and being able to reach his back feet.cat does not mind this homemade gizmo nearly as much as the alfie. on the alfie, when he would hear me rip the velcro apart to put it on him.. he would high-tail it out of the room. when the alfie was on he acted like an anvil was tied to his head. he hated it and sulked. on the homemade job.. he got use to it in a couple of minutes and now does not seem to notice it at all anymore.

Love these
These are really good e-collars. My dog has to wear them frequently to prevent licking his paws due to allergies and they work well. One thing I love about them is that they are nearly clear so my dog can see. This keeps his mood up. He gets depressed in other cones that effect his visibility. I have tried other clear e-collars and like these the best.

She'll come around. Satisfied overall.
I'm satisfied with the product and the price. Glad I took the small one because I wanted it to be tight. She has around 8" for her neck. I know how hard she can fight when she doesn't want something. That being said, I wish the velcro could be on top instead of bottom but it seems heavier than the rest so it always slide down. She's having a hard time adapting and feels a bit handicaped but she' getting used to it.She left me no choice, she was biting her paws like crazy.

Doesn't work for my cat
I was excited to get this and try it on my cat. It seemed much more comfortable for him as the cone that came from the vet was very hard plastic and heavy. But this collar just didn't fit properly. My cat is about 16 lbs and I got the Medium size. I had it on as small as it would go and it stayed on, but he could quite easily push it off with his back feet. Also, the cone length was too short and he could reach his tail injury with it on. So a bigger or smaller size wouldn't fix the problem. It's disappointing because it seems to be good quality and my cat seemed comfortable and could move around well. My cat is not in any way atypical so if you have a cat around the same weight I would not recommend this collar. Might work better for dogs.

Elizabethan coll
Didn't need to use it, but it looks like it will work well when I need it.

Way too big
I used the size chart and measured my Boston Terrier as needing a size large. I thought that was odd so I looked at reviews and they seem to say to size up so I went with it. It arrived and it’s definitely too big. I have the Velcro as tight as it can but it causes the cone to overlap and it keeps dragging on the floor when she walks. It will do in a pinch, but other Boston owners will want to go with the medium size.

This really worked well for my Havanese dog
This cone works so well on my dog. The soft fabric part around the neck makes it very comfortable for her, but the sturdy cone texture makes it very useful in stopping my dog from being able to reach her front two paws. The velcro is very sturdy/strong so I can use it repeatedly. Easy to clean.
