One of the most gut wrenching Alex Novels!
Because you know Kyle Craig is out to kill the entire Cross family, I was on the edge with every page I turned!! I won't spoil it, you have to read it to find out what happens. The Cross family becomes your family in the novels, so this is a gut wrenching read!

It's finally good to see that Kyle Craig has been put down. But not we get to see what Mr. Smith has to offer Dr. Cross and Lindsey Boxer.

Suspenseful and moving
After about one paragraph in, I was hooked and finished the book over night. Patterson has hit pay dirt with the Alex Cross books. Great detective reading that leads the reader into ever scenario and reveals just enough at the right moments to link what happens next to the reader's imagination and the action of the characters. I love Alex's character and all he portrays as a master detective. Patterson seems to be a master at that.

Decent book but honestly I got confused a few times
I should probably start by saying that I think this book would be much better if you have read previous Alex Cross books. I jumped into this one because I was told that you can pick up any of them and start reading. I was exposed to James Patterson through another series of his (one with a co-author) and I find that this one is very different. Although I enjoy most of the writing, there are parts that I feel like I got lost or missed something.... but that might also be from reading late at night! I HIGHLY suggest getting this on the Kindle if you can because the print version that I got was literally missing pages due to a bad printing. I had luckily noticed the bad ink because I was looking through it for some random reason before I started reading it. I'm not opposed to reading on the kindle, but my kids steal the kindle a lot so I wanted to make sure I could read whenever I wanted. However... I ultimately ended up with a kindle edition and it worked out fine. With his style of writing (shorter chapters), it's not too bad to read on the kindle for me.

Good suspense triller and read but charcters got carried away
This Alex Cross novel was a good suspense triller and a good read but for myself I thought some of the characters got a little carried away. What I mean is I've seen a pattern with some of the last few Alex Cross novels Patterson has written for his fans of the series. Some aspects seem little over the top but still didn't stop me from reading this book of his and his series. I read it in four days time because I found it to be very full of thrills and suspense. I took one star off because I didn't care for how some of chracters were killed off. Not to be a spoiler but Alex Cross seems like a chicken with his head cut off trying to solve so many crimes while trying to plan his wedding while his main enemy (Kyle Craig) tries to kill him once again, but Alex doesn't reconsize him because.... you have to buy the book to find out why. I say this don't believe all the bad reviews people post up on amazon about books, movies, music and so forth. Make up your own mind and see if you end up enjoying the book as much as I did. I mean four days to read a book roughly about 360 pages is a pretty fast read.

Thrilling!
Oh boy this one kept me hooked from beginning to end!As always the characters work well within the plotline and with each other. There are some major surprises in this story - some that are ones that Alex relishes but others that aren't quite so good for him. It is still excellent reading from start to finish with only one storyline I found slightly ridiculous but, without going into detail and spoiling the whole book for everyone, it is still a very thrilling read.I definitely recommend this book to everyone who loves a thriller

A tasty Hot-Cross bun, but light on the butter....
An enjoyable page-turner, even if a strain on plot credibility. Clearly Kyle Craig (Cross's long-time enemy and ex-colleague, who rang the detective at the very end of "I, Alex Cross", the previous novel in the series) must be a fantastic voice mimic. Combined with top-class plastic surgery, his mimicry fools the normally brilliant Alex and the FBI into believing he is the Bureau's operative Max Siegel. If you can get past this plot strand, then you're in for a good read.Patterson's style reads effortlessly, as he paints the scenes in broad brush strokes. Pace is strong, slowing only a bit for the domestic scenes involving the Cross family. Developing the reader's empathy with the family members is a key authorial technique in building tension in this series of books. After all, what is the likelihood that Cross will be killed? (Particularly given the first-person, past-tense narrative for Alex's viewpoint.)There are a couple of things I didn't like. My main criticism is the lack of resolution of a major arc of the plot. It is possible the author is planting a seed for a future novel, but it leaves the readers of this book hanging. At the very least, a sort of "Colombo moment" would have been welcome to tidy things up a little.A more personal criticism is that the third-person narrative voice that is used for the "sniper arc" assumes a crude tone, presumably to mirror the viewpoint of Denny, in particular. However, I'm not sure this is justified, given the plot development.Oh... and a third niggle: Cross's ex-wife, Christine, makes a nuisance of herself - and apparently to no purpose other than to burn up a few paragraphs in what seems a short book.If you would like to hear Patterson plug the book, a short video is included on the USA Amazon site's link to "Cross Fire". I was also interested to learn of a Cross-prequel movie, which is in the works. That is something to look forward to.The Kindle price has dropped strongly since I bought "Cross Fire" for £7.16 at the end of March. I wish I'd waited!4 stars from me, being a little generous. (3.5 might be closer.)

you won't be disappointed by this book
Detective Alex Cross is back in the 17th novel of this best selling series. In my opinion it is the best Alex Cross novel to date, James Patterson at his best.It starts with a chilling murder committed by ‘The Mastermind’, readers of the previous novels will know who this is. From here on it just gets better and better.A sniper is going around Washington killing “the bad guys from the newspapers”, high profile targets including politicians, judges and heads of companies. Is the killer working alone and is someone else pulling the strings? Who would want these people dead and for what reason?Alex Cross is put in charge of the sniper killings and at the same time there are also the bizarre deaths of homeless men with strange numbers carved into their bodies. Alex is overworked and also planning his wedding to Bree so takes the help of an FBI who he dislikes. Will Alex solve the murders and catch the killers? Will Kyle Craig get his revenge or be captured and taken back to maximum security? This is a great fast paced, action packed thriller from page 1 right to the climatic finish. It leaves you wanting more. It is well written with believable characters. You don’t have to have read any of the previous novels to understand what is going on, but if you haven’t read the other books in this series this will make you want to read them all. It is action packed, fast paced and not a dull moment. It is definitely worth the money and the time to read. You will not be disappointed.

ie without the over the top declarations and self protestations of love for Bree
I feel the Alex Cross consortium has turned in to a comic book, literary excellence it is not. I had a break from reading Patterson for a few years and so I have just read 17, 18 ,19 and 20 in the series back to back and I must admit that 19 and 20 seam to have Alex Cross back on form, ie without the over the top declarations and self protestations of love for Bree.Coronation Street with a little action..... you know its gonna keep on rolling.....All lovers of this franchise will undoubtedly love the updates of the Crosses family story.....

Page turner
Some time ago I swore I'd never read another JP book again (shortly after reading Swimsuit, if I recall) but this book was .99p and I'd enjoyed earlier Alex Cross books, so decided to take a punt on it. Maybe it's because it's been a while since I've read a Cross - but it had me gripped and was nicely written - even if I'm a bit puzzled **spoiler alert** as to why the ex-wife storyline popped up in the way it did.But it was good enough for me to consider revisiting Cross again.
