Bold and Refreshing
Van Jensen did some really great work on this story. And the art by Pete Woods is clean and appropriate. I was looking for something different awhile back, something really different than the standard superhero comic flare. I came across Cryptocracy #1 on Dark Horse's website and decided to look into it. It didn't fail to impress. I knew I'd want this in TPB form, so I waited for what felt like an eternity for the first volume. I would love to see more Cryptocracy, preferably with the same creative team. The ideas and themes behind this story were brave. Makes one think maybe Van Jensen is part of the Illuminati... just kidding. But, if you're into entertaining the idea of a shadow hand or shadow groups manipulating society, check this out. You won't be disappointed.

Enjoyable but not essential fare
Take all the conspiracy theories in the world, add some David Icke for loony toons measure, and then try and do something new with it and this is what comes out the other end. Not entirely successful, characters are not fully developed, the story-line is confusing at times referring to a mythology which, because it exists in subverted form, one can never be sure of following. The art is nothing special. All in all its a bit hit and miss, a curate's egg if you will
