Pleasantly funny.
I love this move. My family and I reference some of the lines almost everyday.

All Black cast musical from the1940s
I wanted to watch this film for its historical aspect. A musical with an all Black cast made in 1943 with Lena Horne, Louie Armstrong and Duke Ellington. I really enjoyed the singing, dancing and character costuming. Storyline could have used a little less piety and the ending reminded me of the Wizard of OZ but overall great production for the time.

It is awesome engaging and truth entertaining!
I love this "Cabin in the Sky" movie The cast is excellent at teaching about life. I had this movie and it seemingly disappeared. I ordered to fill my void of this movie that truly merits the purchase. If you have not, check it out, it will not disappoint.

Classic/exciting
Thank you grandma for introducing me to this film during childhood in the last 80s. I carried my love for this film into 2022 and now going Into 2023; this can be passed on to the next generation in my family. The whole cast is greatly appreciated for the joy Cabin In The Sky has given me. If you haven't watched; it's a must see.

A Gem
Made in the 1940s, this movie is historically and culturally important because of it's all black cast. So, I like it for that reason. But I love this movie because it is such a good story, great acting, great singing. A real gem!

Good movie
The all-black cast makes this an interesting movie. Very tight, well directed and edited.

Great movie...inappropriate commentary track
If you want to have enjoyed the film for what it is -- brilliant performances and a fun piece of Hollywood history -- do not (repeat: do NOT) listen to the commentary track by Dr. Todd Boyd, who spends most of his microphone time on a soapbox, wringing out of the film every ounce of racial significance he can find. Much of it is simply ludicrous. For example, we have The General, God's emissary on earth being Little Joe's conscience; and we have Lucifer, Jr., being Temptation. The General is in a white uniform, as are all his "soldiers of the Lord"; Lucifer, Jr., and his minions are all in black uniforms. Damned if Dr. Boyd doesn't see this as racial stereotyping: Whites are good, Blacks are evil! And then there's a tap dancer (who isn't identified by name). In the midst of this number, Dr. Boyd informs us that tap dancing is racial stereotyping, symbolizing the oppressed state of the African-Americans in American society! I didn't know that tap dancing represented repressed minorities! (I wonder if Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire knew this?) This guy is annoying and laughable and totally inappropriate in discussing this movie.Others on the commentary track are Eddie Anderson's widow and daughter, surviving Nicholas Brother Feyard, Lena Horne and Drew Casper. They, at least, have something relevant and positive to say, not an axe to grind.A wonderful movie. Just avoid the extras!

A TOUR-DE-FORCE OF TALENT FROM AN AMAZING CAST
In these enlightened times, a movie such as Cabin in the Sky - which is heavily laden with racial stereotypes - seems awkwardly out of place. However, before we all jump on the political correctness bandwagon, it's worth remembering that the movie was made during WW2, and that Civil Rights Movements were some 20 or so years in the future.Much has been written about the plot, so I won't focus on that. I will say, however, that this movie is a tour-de-force of talent. It marked Vincente Minelli's directorial debut, and he did a fine job. Eddie "Rochester" Anderson, Lena Horne and Ethel Waters all play their parts brilliantly. If there was any animosity between Lena and Ethel, it was probably down to the following fact: Ethel fought tooth and nail to climb the showbiz ladder, whereas Lena was the first African-American actress to be groomed specially for Hollywood. Ms Horne had specially designed gowns and mingled with the upper echelons of MGM. The moviemakers even created a special make up range for her in an effort to pass her off as an exotic Latin American belle. Lena refused to disrespect her race by denying her heritage.Anyway, back to the film. It's Ethel Water's character, Petunia, that I warm to the most. She may have been downtrodden, and reduced to scrubbing floors. However, there's a down-to-earth warmth that radiates from her. Her rendition of "Happiness is a Thing Called Joe" is superb. The late Waters was a remarkable, versatile performer, and it's a shame that she's not as well known among the masses as Lena.As for Lena's Georgia Brown, she's nothing short of breathtakingly beautiful. Ms Horne was something of a WW2 pin-up. She tempts the viewers (and the censors, no doubt!) with her sexy lingerie, and isn't shy to show off a good bit of thigh! The only other African American woman who showed this much flesh was Josephine Baker, but she was doing her thing in Paris! The songs by Duke Ellington are great. Also look out for a young Louis Armstrong - he plays one of Lucifer's hilarious angels!Cabin in the Sky is fine musical - a classic. So take a nostalgic trip down memory lane and enjoy one of the finest musicals of its era.

What a disappointment!!!!!
When we opened the DVD and popped in the player, it turned out to be a blank DVD!!! I went to the menu button and all was listed on this particular disk. But I think we will give any Amazon partners a miss for awhile.

Défaut de gravure
Je voudrais signaler un défaut de gravure irrémédiable vers le milieu de ce film, par ailleurs délicieux. Sur deux lecteurs de DVD différents, le disque s'est bloqué au même endroit.

Cabin in the sky
Pour le jeu d'Ethel Waters, grande comédienne et chanteuse noire-américaine. Et puis, il y ale sensationnel Louis Armstrong. Même si l'intrigue est un peu gan-gnan, ce film ravira les amateurs de jazz, forcément.
