Marked by a symbol, both inside and out. For as long as he can remember, Caleb has grown up in the Academy, a military school founded just after the outbreak of civil war in Delvondia. The students there train every day to be better soldiers so that when King Edric calls upon the Academy's aid, they'll be ready. The lifestyle is rigorous, but Caleb manages to stay out of trouble with the instructors by following a simple set of survival rules: 1. Always answer when a question is asked of you. 2. When you do respond, say what they want to hear, regardless of the truth. 3. Never be last. 4. Never be first. This is the system Caleb and his friends use to keep out of harm's way, and it has never failed them. But then King Edric decides to push for the war's conclusion, and the Academy instructors are pressured to create even stronger soldiers. Caleb is pulled into situations he never expected to be in before. He faces new challenges that arise from his ranking, from his friends, and even from the outside world, and he doesn't know where he can turn. His Academy system for survival breaks down, and he is left to find the answers on his own. But as Caleb makes decisions for himself and others, one question is always in the back of his mind: What if I'm wrong?
