My Main Entertainment Device
I have had mine for two months now and I absolutely love my Fire tablet! I use it every day and it really does everything I need. It is sturdy and gorgeous. As a Prime member I have a lot of media choices.I no longer have to settle for whatever might be on TV. I know I am late to the tablet game. I just don’t like spending large sums of money. I recognized that I was not benefiting from all Amazon had to offer and, as a Christmas gift to myself, I finally pulled the trigger on this new HD 10 Fire tablet. The decision was based on what I could get for the price. I thought the price was very reasonable.I’m a reader. So this is perfect. Not only do I get books but newspapers and magazines too! Wonderful!I like to listen to Public Radio. With Alexa hands-free I just say, “Alexa play KPBS” and I am connected via TuneIn. If I had connected to KPBS via the browser I could not read or do anything else but listen.Amazon has an amazing music collection that is more than just music. Of course I have created my own play lists but I also like comedy. I have access to a pretty large number of old comedy albums. I can now listen to Lenny Bruce, or Sam Kinison, or Bob and Ray, or Coyle and Sharp, or even old Bob Hope radio shows! This is fantastic! The selection of movies and TV shows available is really wonderful, not perfect, but truly wonderful. If Amazon is going to keep producing magnificent programs like “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel” I will not have any trouble being entertained. The Fire HD 10’s screen is big enough so I can enjoy a show or movie without being distracted by how small the screen is. The HD screen is crystal clear and beautiful. I really love the color quality.Audible is something I did not think I would use or use very often. I only have about three books on CD. I prefer to read unless the author is a gifted entertainer, then I go for the full entertainment performance. Then I discovered Amazon has the complete BBC radio production of A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Now I’m in heaven. Simply sublime! But, they have more. They have the books on Audible and they are surprisingly good. So, I using Audible much more than I thought I ever would. So, I must say that I got much more than I expected and I am a very happy, very well entertained, Amazon Fire customer. Now a few words about a few other tablet topics.A word about the special offers: Special offers are what Amazon calls advertisements. When you turn on the tablet, or open the case cover, you will see a screen saver that will be advertising a product. Some are upset by this. I personally do not care. Most of the time I swipe past it without noticing. For me it is not an issue. Once you have swiped past the ad no other ad pop-ups appear. The tablet is not plagued with pop-ups. All you have to suffer through is seeing an ad whenever the tablet is turned on.A word about internal storage. I got the 64 GB and I don’t think I need to get a SIM card. Everything, except pictures, are always backed up to the cloud. So, I don’t think I will have any issues with storage. I have already added a lot of books and videos and hardly made an impact on the storage space. It seems that music is streamed direct and does not require a download. So, music and movies need good sound and, with Bluetooth, that is totally covered. The little stereo speakers installed with the tablet will not do the job for music and video. So, for about $20, I got a nice little BT speaker that is surprisingly good with music. It is easy to carry around and it is waterproof. Of course you could go the headphones route. The 10 hour tablet battery life is a bit low but I can stream while I charge so I just carry my speaker around and use my Paperwhite for reading. Charging time seems to be in the one to two hour range. I haven’t timed it. So far I have never been annoyed because the battery ran low or the charging time was too long. So, that’s what I think of the Fire HD 10. If anything changes I will edit this review.

Another Excellent Fire Tablet
An excellent tablet for the price and a very good tablet overall.Almost all of this review will be a comparison with the Fire 8" tablet which I have had for a while1. OS for 10" is Bellini 5.5 vs 5.4.1 for the 8" No idea what the difference is.2. Display is excellent and better than the 8"3. Amazon cover for the 10" is liter than their cover for the 8". Neither tablet though is particularly lite when you include the Amazon cover4. Performance of the 10" is better than the 8" which can be a sluggish if you run multiple apps at one time. Whether or not a user will consider the performance adequate for their needs will depend on how they use the tablet and also on what other tablets they may have used. Performance will also depend on whether or not you choose to let Bellini load apps on an installed SD card or not.5. Battery usage on both appears about the same, though that is based upon limited usage of the 10"6. I haven't noticed any difference in download speed between the two but again this is based upon limited usage of the 10"7. No comparison of video play at this time since I only played one Youtube video on the 10" I will say that I have been able to watch videos on the 8" from Microsoft's OneDrive without downloading them and with no lag or buffering issues. I imagine it will be the same for the 10"8. Audio on both is mediocre.depending on what video's you play. With older videos you have to either crank the audio up to 100% or use an audio Booster software available in the App Store9. No problem pairing the one Bluetooth speaker I paired on the 10" The same with the 8". I recommend using a Bluetooth speaker for both the 10" and 8"10. Setup on both is simple though Amazon does spam you a bit with the setup on the 10" via a offer to subscribe to Prime. Can't recall if that is part of the setup on the 8". Could have done without it but since you only need to do setup once unless you reset the device.it is no big deal11. I bought both with Special Offers and then paid separately $17.10 including tax where I live to remove the Special Offers. Just my preference to do it this way rather than but the tablet without the Special Offers.12. During setup you are given the option to restore from backup of another tablet if you have another tablet. However, restore does not restore your apps on the Home Page. It only puts them in the Library where you have to manually download the restored apps. Downloading an app automatically puts it on the Home Page but at the end of the list of the other apps already on the Home Page. So you have to manually configure the Home Page.13. Like with the 8" you have to go through the Setup features in order to select which options you wand setup a Pin if you want want one etc.14. On both the 8" and 10" the Side Loading of apps option is turned off by default and installing apps on the SD card is turned on by default. I have not side loaded apps on either my 8" or 10". Supposedly you can download and install Google Play. I did try it on my 7" Fire Tablet. Google Play did show up but for some reason did not open. I choose not to mess with it to see if I could get it to open. I just uninstalled it.All in all another very good Amazon product and excellent value for the money notwithstanding the less than optimal audio without an audio booster app and/or Bluetooth speaker. That is about all I can think of at this time. Hope that my review will be helpful to those who read it. Sorry for any typos
