These are really remarkable lights, with a great quality of light and good colour rendition. I have been using this light for studio portraiture and product photography tests, combined with another brand's fresnel adapter and a soft frost filter. With a fresnel the light is controllable and just bright enough for portraits at relatively low ISO (ISO 200, f/4 or so). The fresnel allows you to concentrate enough light in a controllable way, making the light effectively brighter and giving quite a good Hollywood-style effect, as well as beautiful shadows. Without a fresnel it may be inappropriate for still portraits unless you're comfortable using much higher ISOs. This is because the bare chip produces too hard a light and is painfully bright on the eyes, but once you bounce or diffuse it to soften it, you have spent a lot of the light's power. A simple clip-on frost diffuser may be enough to take the harsh edge off the bare chip's light. You may also find this useful for addressing the secondary shadow that can be caused by the rim of the reflector. None of these concerns matter so much for video where you'll likely be using higher ISOs and slower shutter speeds; the one concern would be the fan, which is not very loud.

Like many people, I have been working from home over the past few months. I needed a video light to up the quality of my Skype calls. The Godox SL60W fits the bill perfectly, its bright and not to loud in operation. The Bowen mount sounds wonderful, but you need a decent light stand to use it. With a large softbox you want a C-Stand with sand bag to stop the thing toppling over. In the end I settled for using a basic shoot through umbella as a diffuser. Works very well and my Skpe calls look much better. The remote is handy as I can turn the light on with a simple button when making a call. This is one of the momst popular video lights there is at the moment. It's easy to see why, buy it and be happy.

I am writing this from a photographers perspective, not a videographers. I bought this to test lighting setups I will be using with portable flash such as the Godox AD200 and not to use on live shoots. Firstly for the money it is well made and I do not find the sound of the fan intrusive at all. The remote control works well and is easy to setup for groups and channels, this is the same with the head itself. The standard Bowens S fitting worked with the modifiers I tried and the light stand mount was strong enough to stop an 80cm popup beauty dish turning the head down. Light is light and the main issue photographers would find is lack of power. In my testing situation it does not matter as I set the camera to manual and then the shutter speed and aperture to what I will be using with the flash and then put ISO to auto as I am not concerned with ISO noise. This works really well for me as the images shot of my Dolly Dummy Head with this head are very close to the ones shot with flash. However if you are considering buying this for use on a live model or portrait shoot as a guide you will need to be shooting at F4 1/60th at ISO 400 or 500 with the light at 1m through a shoot through white umbrella. If you put it through an 80cm softbox with inner and outer diffusers fitted then your ISO is going to be around 1600 with the light on full power at 1m. Both umbrella and softbox gave nice soft lighting and if you can live with the higher ISO's then this would offer a suitable alternative to flash. It is also a great learning and teaching tool as of course you can see exactly where the light is falling.

This is a great light for the price! Yes, the fan is a little noisy but that is neither here nor there as far as I am concerned. There are a couple of "how-to - replace it with a quiet one" on youtube, if it matters to you. It's just so, let us say, inexpensive compared to the competition. Robust construction, very easy to use and gives off nice clean light. I highly recommend it
