They’re just another style choice. I personally find them more comfortable to wear than the tapers or the solid plugs with the o-rings.

Q: what material?.. it turned my ears bright red to the point they'd burn i needed to go to a legit hospital. don't buy these

i don’t know the material, but i will say i had no issues with them at all. you could be allergic, but when i stretched my ears they did turn red because they were swollen from sizing up. it quickly went back to normal though
