Nice Upgrade for Screen or Storm Doors
When my 25+ year old storm door latch decided to fall apart I was really not overly surprised, but still a problem that needed to be fixed. I have in past bought replacement kits for my other doors from big box stores, but they have been less than stellar quality. So I decided to take a chance with the Wright Products "Contemporary Style" replacement handle and latch, it not only was affordable, but looks wise it was an upgrade from the old standard style door handle that you find on most screen/storm doors. Installation is fairly straight forward of you have the standard hole configuration that are found on 90% of all screen doors. The "latch spindle" seems to be a point of contention for a number of reviews. So I will share my experience. Starting with if you have the "Contemporary" design ignore what the instructions say about the length, you do not want to snap it off the notch beyond the width of the door when you line the "arrow" up; instead you want it to break it off at the notch that is flush with the door. If not it will be too long and bind when you push the outside button. I know this because I made that mistake and had to snap off one additional notch after it didn't work right. Second, I read many reviews that said it was impossible to snap it off. I expected the worse, but I used two vice grips, one on each side of the notch, and bent it towards the side the notches were stamped and it snapped right off fairly easily. This is coming from someone in their 60s. Overall it has smooth operation, it looks fairly nice, and it seems fairly well made. I did have to drill an additional hole for the bottom of the outside handle, since my previous one did not have one. It does come with all the screws you will need for various thickness of doors, and the bottom handle screw is self-tapping for metal doors.

Solid & Smooth
I replaced a cheap 10 dollar latch that I bought from a hardware store with this latch. This is a solid latch with a smooth operation and simple installation instructions. Good quality, and I recommend this latch.

Fits, works and looks sturdier than mist others.
Its made of good metal. It fits and works. The lock is easy to flip with one hand and it looks better than the old one. Very easy to install with one phillips screwdriver in about five minutes.

Functional - but needlessly complicated
The Wright Products Tie Down Push Button Door Latch definitely gets the job done—once it’s installed, it works smoothly and looks great on our screen door. The push-button mechanism feels sturdy, and the latch holds securely without any issues. Functionally, it’s solid and dependable. That said, the installation process is another story. For such a basic device, it feels like you need an advanced degree in engineering just to get it mounted correctly. The instructions were more confusing than helpful, and aligning everything took way longer than it should have. I wouldn’t say it’s impossible to install, but it’s definitely not intuitive. Bottom line: It’s a great latch once it’s in place, but be prepared to scratch your head—and possibly call in a friend with a toolbox and a Ph.D.

Incorporates the spring instead of using a separate spiral spring - so easy to install!
This is a very basic latch replacement for screen/storm door handle -- not keyed! -- with extra strikes and screws to accommodate different sizes. Installation is a breeze -- took perhaps 5 min. for this senior citizen -- assuming you are replacing a latch that had what is now the standard spacing for the holes. You need to pick the 2 screws of those included (several sizes) to match the thickness of your door. The most difficult part of the installation is simply making sure that you adjust the length of the bar (snaps off to various lengths depending on the thickness of the door) so that the latch will operate correctly from both sides. If you don't snap the bar to the correct length, the inner handle won't latch/unlatch or may not stay locked, or the outer button may seem to latch instead of unlatch. As others have noted, the strike plates with this set are not the spring-bar type but rather the solid type; two different height plates are included, to accommodate all those different types of doors and spacings that have been used in the past. You can also use this with a spring-bar plate, but you'd have to buy that separately for a few dollars. Two plastic shims are also included with this, to allow more finely adjusting the height of the strike used. And as mentioned above, several lengths of the two screws are included, to accommodate different door thicknesses. I am giving this latch set 5 stars for one very specific feature: There is no bothersome easy-to-lose separate spiral spring, as you'd find on almost every other inexpensive latch replacement set. Instead, the spring functionality is incorporated into the outer handle. Wow, why haven't all the other manufacturers done this, instead of relying on that annoying separate spiral spring that is so easy to drop when assembling the latch to the door?? [I have to admit, at first I thought this was just missing the part, but instead it's been replaced by something actually attached to the handle.] For that alone, plus the low-low price of this Amazon add-on item, I give this 5 stars. If you are comfortable with a screwdriver, you will have no trouble getting this installed.
