Adafruit PIR Motion Sensor

i gave this 5-stars, but they are not what i would consider pro-grade. they do work pretty well though, and i would order them again. you do have to consider that they also don't cost anywhere near what pro-grade motion sensors cost.

I bought this to make a motion activated magic mirror. It worked with my Pi 3B+ and was easy to plug it in and make it work. I used a breadboard to connect it to the Pi with M->F jumpers.

Replaced a broken IR sensor for a Spirit Halloween animatronic. It’s much bigger than I wanted it but it worked.

This is bigger than I was expecting. I figured it would be about the same size as my SmartThings motion sensors, but it's much bigger. Seems to work pretty well with my Pi3. For some reason when I connect it to a pi zero it is less reliable. Not sure why. I usually use my Pi3 to set things up since its a lot quicker and remote desktop is snappier and when I'm done, I throw the microSD into a pizero and transfer any hardware over. Works great for everything except this motion sensor. Frequently goes off when nothing is happening despite being set to the lowest sensitivity possible. If I set it to high sensitivity, it constantly sees motion. 3 stars since it seems to work Ok depending on what device it is connected to. I've had the same experience with two of these as well as two different pi zeros. Ended up not using them since they weren't very reliable with the pi zero.

Great little sensor. Adafruit website has a nice tutorial on testing and using.

Does not work well at all. Maybe I was just unlucky and received one that is defective. I bought another brand, and the other brand's PIR sensor works great using the same code and controller. Note, the other brand's PIR sensor was also cheaper.

The sensor works great. I used it to play a sound every time someone walked by. What I liked most is that the sensitivity and amount of time can be adjusted on it.

The PIR motion sensors arrived on time. I am using these with my students in a Learning to Code elective class.

I don't know what other people are talking about, my sensor worked right away as it was supposed to. Great product, very easy to integrate into any amateur electronics projects that require motion detection.Note however, that the sensitivity is still very good. At minimum sensitivity, I was able to detect motion within a 4 metre radius. Also, the sensor pulses for a minimum 5 seconds (at least mine does), which makes it very slow for certain applications. Nonetheless, great product if it suits your application.

Would have liked connectors at both ends for connecting the sensor to the pi.
