This is a CEO's must read to improve bottom line results.
As a specialist in this field, I am very pleased to have found a book that summarizes all the processes required to implement a sourcing strategy - starting with Spend Analysis. The book is well structured and takes you to a journey of implementation of Spend Analysis and the requirements to do it in your corporate environment and the considerations for selecting a suitable provider to do the bulk of analysis, structuring and cleaning of databases from all your current systems. As a member of Supply Chain Council, I recommend this book to all CEOs and supply chain profesionals who want to know step-by-step the process that can bring multimillion dollar savings to all corporations, I am very impressed with the savings power of this tool, none of the Six Sigma projects which I lead in the past, have the potential of SA for cost reductions that really impact the bottom line and that can be measured as direct contributions to profitability of the professionals who master these techniques and the people who champion these methods within any corporation.I have used Spend Analysis in large supply chain organizations and have realized multimillion dollar savings in transportation, insurance and logistics service providers on a worldwide basis. Plus the product sourcing advantages that can be found by implementing sound sourcing strategies.I highly recommend this book to all CEO's who are starving with ideas to improve their current operations, make sure to get the best people in the market to help you in the roll out.

A need for procurement professionals
This book is fantastic. I’ve been in procurement as a commodity manager for 5 1/2 years. I purchased this book to get a better foundation behind strategic sourcing. It’s written it a way that tells a story and also delivers information and key terms that are used in the business world. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is working in procurement or who wants to get a well-rounded foundation into strategic sourcing.

Good Book
Used it for one of my classes. Though it seems it's aimed more towards a person that has already been in the industry, it explains things in a way that a beginner can understand the process without having experience.

A great book that gets lost near the end
This book provides useful insight into spend analysis, structures the methods into a useful IT conceptual model, sites useful references to more detailed topics, covers the entire lifecycle of spend analysis and even spends a lot of time on data cleansing/taxonomy. I would have preferred a chapter on commodity management but that probably slips into strategic sourcing too much. However, the authors tend to get lost in academic speak a little too much, especially at the end. Also, since both authors are Emptoris managers (acquired by IBM), the book feels like it is slanted to a solution even though they don't refer to Emptoris until very often at all.Overall a great read but there are one or two chapters worth skipping completely.
