Robert Larson 800-2875 Plastic Center Finder

This is just what I wanted, a simple quality tool to do a simple task at a fair price -- this tool works great and is made of good quality plastic not cheap easy to break dime store plastic-- it should last a good long while if not indefinitely with reasonable care --- why is something so simple so hard to find in a hardware store-? The bigger they make the hardware stores the less real hardware and tools they carry it seems --- but they DO have : -- food, candy, clothes, cleaning supplies, furniture - both home and outdoor - lawn ornaments, cheap clearance junk by the ton, Christmas trees, plants and seeds of all descriptions, Halloween costumes etc etc etc . I cant say how many times ive went in looking for staple hardware items or tools only to be told "oh we don't carry those anymore" - or - "you have to go online" - or - theyre so young and clueless they plain just don't even know what im talking about. WHY MAKE THE HARDWARE STORE SO DAMN BIG IF YOURE NOT GOING TO PUT HARDWARE ITEMS IN IT-??!! But regarding this tool, its an excellent product and an excellent buy, I highly recommend it.

I occasionally needed this or something similar.I put off buying it because I thought I could find a useful combo/tri square for a reasonable price, but that's looking less likely all the time. [Bought 1 for $12US; it was cheap junk.]So for $6US, I got a very nice, useful tool that has already worked great a number of times.Its simple, it works, & its not expensive.I recommend it.EDIT: 08/02/2021I like this tool, but I misplaced so I bought another one.Its the same so I have 2 now.It is really quick & easy to use.I read the company was discontinuing it.I think that would be a real mistake because this is a great tool, specially for the price.BTW the replacement tool is the POWERTEC version, looks & works the same, but is ~50¢ less.

Excellent tool - wish I'd bought it years earlier

Not that these are prohibitively expensive but its a lot for a piece of cast plastic. Its not even a good grade of plastic. It feels disposable or like something you'd get for free w purchase. It does help find center well enough to be useful. It won't receive a lot of stress, so if I can keep from stepping on it, IT will probably last me.

I use this often to find the center of turning stock and it's especially helpful for pieces that are not truly square.Simple, quick and easy.If you are a wood turner, buy one. I don't think you'll regret it.

Works for round and square shapes to use on the lathe. This won't work as easily on odd shaped pieces.

Overall, not a "must have" but it sure makes things easier. Lets you see the end grain while centering and marking (sometimes you want to work around a knot or stain, sometimes you're doing some offset turning: these are times when it can be nice to see the grain). This works best when you can hold the tool in your hand with the wood on a benchtop or held in a vise (else you can run into the "I need three hands!" problem).

Use this item in my shop constantly when dealing with round stock, must have for any shop.

Good, simple product, does what it's supposed to. A little expensive for what it is.
