Good Microwave with handle on door
I did not want another microwave with a push button to open it. So I found this one with a handle. It works just fine and the window on the front allows us to see in better than any microwave that we had before. We are happy with it and it looks nicer than are other GE microwave ever did. They all cook about the same in my opinion.Update: March 2013 This microwave is starting to malfunction. When you press the on button everything works except no heat unless you jiggle it a little on the side. We have only moved it once since we got it so it should not be doing this so soon. We do not abuse our microwaves in any way and use it only a few times per day. I expect it to die completely any day now after only a couple of years. All our old microwaves lasted for 8 to 10 years and usually we gave them away just because we wanted a new one with more features.

Do not buy Oster Microwaves
This item was bought in December 2013 and stopped working some time in April of 2014, well within the warranty period. The telephone number I contacted connected me to a warranty support group in Canada. They told me I would have to fill out and return a form they would e-mail me but did not inform me of their specific requirements. I waited in vain for the e-mail and finally asked them to send the form via regular mail. They told me OK but that mail from Canada takes a long time.Weeks passed and nothing came. Finally someone told me to look at my junk mail folder since their forms were often considered junk by Mac computers.I never expected that but that's where I finally did locate the form. By that time (over one month), I had finally brought the microwave to our town dump and deposited it in the electronic disposal van to ensure correct handling. I could not provide a picture of the cut off cord or of the label which were two of their requirements but I had informed them verbally of the item's serial number when first reporting the problem. I explained all that on the form and enclosed the purchase order and the first page of the user's manual. My claim (Case # 255372) was rejected because I could not provide pictures of the cut cord and of the label, two requirements they should have told me about but never did when first contacted.I strongly suggest that Amazon remove this product from their offerings. The warranty support group sets you up for failure when attempting to get a refund for product failure.Steven W Simon

Rust??
This is my 4th microwave in 14 years. Am I hard on microwaves you may ask and my answer is no, it is probably one of our least used appliances. That being said; we always purchased inexpensive microwaves and obviously that did not work for us so we decided to bite the bullet and purchase a more expensive one with a good name. In terms of performance this microwave is fine, however the inside is rusted out. I do occasionally clean this microwave and I certainly clean it if I have a boil over so why in the world is this rusted on the inside. I am almost 40 years old and I have NEVER seen that happen to the inside of a microwave. I am not even sure that it is safe to be using it. I would use a heat safe paint to try to repair it but I am afraid that it may put off dangerous fumes in my food. Any suggestions? The microwave is not even 2 years old.

Nothing to write home about
I researched microwave oven reviews and reports for weeks. I was unable to find a single counter top microwave oven that stood out as reliable. I finally took my chances and purchased this one.I use this microwave oven for simple things - mostly reheating, popping pop corn, heating liquids, etc. It's nothing like my old reliable microwave oven that finally gave up the ghost after decades of use. My primary complaint about this microwave oven is its inconsistency. e.g. At the same setting - in the same microwave-safe container, etc - heating a cup of water will, in one instance, result in a lukewarm cup of water while in another instance produce a nearly boiling cup of water. The same power is NOT applied from one instance to the next for the same setting. It would appear that the age of manufacturing reliable equipment like microwave ovens is a thing of the past. I'm not happy w/ this microwave oven but I don't see any alternative either. It would appear that all counter top microwave ovens are cheaply manufactured any more.I begrudgingly give this microwave oven a 3 (vs 2 or 1) star rating (it's ok) b/c it is just that - passable - barely.

Good for the price
I've had this microwave for six months now, and it still works. When you're reading reviews of things like microwaves, keep in mind that people who have had it fail within a couple of months will be much more likely to write a review than people who have had no problems, so the reviews will overstate problems with durability. For ~$100, the size and power of the microwave are great. I'm also a big fan of the appearance and the design (e.g. the handle rather than a button to open the door). It heats quite evenly - I've had microwaves with hot and cold spots in the past, and it was awful, so I'm glad that this one is good in that respect. It is fairly loud during operation, and it falls victim to a pet peeve of mine, which is that it beeps three times when it's finished plus an extra time when the door is opened, and it makes all four beeps even if you open the door the instant it stops cooking. Reasonably or not, I find this quite irritating, especially since the beep is a little on the loud side and I often want to use the microwave while my roommates are asleep in adjoining rooms. The rotating plate gets dislodged pretty easily, and makes some significant clunking sounds even when it stays in place, so that doesn't help with the noise levels. These are really pretty minor concerns, though. The bottom line is that it's big, it's cheap, and it works.
