This book is a work of genius!!! I tried to get into stocks years ago and none of the references for beginners I came across made any sense, so I gave up. I decided to give it another try and some references captured the very basics like "what is a stock?" "why is investing important?" but after that sent me for a loop again. I decided not to give up again and that's what led me to this book. John Roberts simplifies EVERYTHING! He puts in a relative perspective so you can understand it better. Like saying an exchange is basically an auction. He relates something unfamiliar to something familiar so you can grasp it better. It helps a lot to be put this way. And I love that he centers the book solely on stocks. Other references start throwing in bonds and funds when you barely understood stocks to begin with, making you twice as confused. I also love that he reiterates some important points because sometimes I'll forget something and wind up going back and try to read it again, but he brings up the points again to make it easier to stick. And being new to the stock market I need that reminder.Upon reading this book, I was finally able to get a stockbroker account and begin investing with confidence. Something I never thought I could do. I can't wait to read his other books!

I personally thought its an extremely helpful book for pure beginners. People who don't have a single clue about the stock market i think this is the book for you. But does it get to the point where you can comfortably buy a stock, from my point of view i don't think so. I think the books just gives you an overall idea on how the stock market works and how the investor should think. Its very brief I enjoyed the book, very great examples to make things much more simple to understand. Overall it an Excellent book for beginner, but not to the point where you could comfortably buy a stock as the title claims.

This book is a easy read and stocked with great information!

Easy to understand for beginners.Only thing is that the book recommends subscribing to the Oxford Communique; DO NOT do that. There are much better journals to get info from that are cheaper and more accessible. Oxford Journals may have been the gold standard in the 80s/90s but their site is now too difficult to use.

A few months ago I have some knowledge and start to do my own personal financial management. I have considered many option on how to do investing especially in passive income. One among other method is stock investment. My real challenge is I completely do not know what is stock investment and where to get start from it.Until I found this book, I found an author really carefully explain to the reader since the beginning of the first step. He has shown a lot of stock on doing stock investment, how to purchase and selling your stock, where is the starting point that you should start to do it... and many other tips and advice that you could use it to do stock investment.The book won't teach you in advance level such as how to analyze the trend of the stock or read the data to make your own decision but this book help you to get confident on how to do stock investing at the beginning level. I picked it up and could not put it down until I read to the VERY LAST PAGE. I knew nothing of how the stocks worked and now i feel empowered to start investing on my own.This book is a real page turner, humorous and so simple to understand. I will be purchasing more book from John Roberts.I have so many reviews to fill out on Amazon and just haven't been motivated to do so but for this read I HAD TO. I just finished reading this book and wanted to give the author his just due props. It takes a lot to keep my mind from wandering and this book succeeded.It has been read and now I am ready to take on the market. There are some really great references in this book, by the way and it will be my holy grail of reference until memorized. Ok. I've said enough. If you want to learn the basics in an easy to understand way then BUY THE BOOK!!

This book was great for the first time investor to understand. The author explains it in the most simple way for a novice to take in and use the info in the real world. I would definitely recommend this book. It's informative and just the right amount of technical jargon for someone just learning. I also bought the next book Your Future Paychecks and Raises. So worth it. Thanks John!
