Lower side pockets as in cargo shorts? These are not cargo shorts.

Q: Are the front pockets deep enough for the large iPhone?

The pockets are pretty generous compared to a lot of shorts pockets now...approximately 7.5 inches deep and plenty wide enough. Hope that helps.

Q: What is the dimension of the leg opening of the amazon essentials men's slim-fit 9" inseam stretch 5-pocket short, size 36?

I have the 34" shorts and the opening is 10" when laid flat. I'm 6' 185 lbs with medium-large legs and they have great modern fit without feeling tight or restrictive when I sit. Hope that helps!

Q: Would these work for swimming trunks?

These shorts are 99% cotton, so wouldn’t make very good swim trunks as they would absorb a lot of water and take a long time to dry. That said, if you really want to swim in then, they provide good coverage and are quite comfortable.
