Transformers at its best -- It will change your life
Oh, if there were only more stars to give. Let me tell you about this movie. Simply put, it's the greatest motion picture of our time, nay-- of all time. So many components of it make it classic, from the music, to Orson Welles, to the animation quality. The Michael Bay movies, while I'm sure appealing to a new, younger demographic, just don't resonate with me the way this animated film does.So let me wax poetic on why this film is so amazing. As a young child I instantly was hooked on it, and have probably seen it damn near 200 times at this point (I am now 33).The Animation : The animation quality is incredible. Around this time we were getting animes from Japan like Akira and Ghost in the Shell, both of which also had outstandingly detailed animation. This movie was no different, if not superior in many respects to the image quality in those movies. I lament the fact that most US 'animation' is no longer hand drawn and just doesn't have the same feel (you can tell the animators labored over each cell to get all of the detail). If anyone knows of other movies with similar quality that I have not named, please let me know. The Music : Cheesy 80's rock ballads at their best. 'Dare' and 'The Touch' are the standout tracks that will resonate with me, and I'm sure many others, forever. Unicron's ominous soundtrack that permeates his scenes is also menacing and beautiful, a perfect match for the terrifying transformer that he is.The Story : The story is bold. Many have said that the demise of certain characters was all a ploy to sell new toys (which it undoubtedly was) but it was also a bold step that challenged audiences who did not expect this type of thing to occur. The playful nature of the show was replaced by a harsher, darker vision that fit the grand scale of the film. Love every aspect of the narrative.Orson Welles : This is the legendary Orson Welles' last film. I'm sure that's not what he wanted (I believe he thought the movie premise was somewhat dumb), but hey, what a way to go out. There could not be a better voice actor for Unicorn, it's just not physically possible. I dare you to find a better voice for this character. It simply cannot be done. As an aside, there are other great voice actors in this movie, many of which are household names for their live-action acting work.In conclusion, if you don't own this movie, I feel a great sorrow for you. If you've never SEEN this movie, that is simply criminal. Please do everything you can to do so. You will thank me later. It's truly one of the great marvels of film and animation, and everything good about the Transformers franchise.

Transformers: the Movie [Ultimate Edition] is great for its variety
This version of the Transformers: the Movie has lots of extra video content that chronicles the 1986 movie. While this edition is on two DVDs, there is a Blu-ray version that has even more extras for purchase. This version, however, has two releases (16:9 ratio and the original 4:3 ration presentation) of the movie. Be sure to read thoroughly the version that you are purchasing to make the right buy position and get what you want !

Sweet majestic flying monkeys you need to buy this if you love Transformers
Admittedly I found most of the special features to be pretty boring, especially the Unused Footage section or whatever it was called - I think they literally just gathered up whatever scraps of footage or old incomplete sketches they could lay their hands on. Maybe other people want to see 6 seconds of a white screen with black lines indicating where the lighting effects overlaid a scene from the siege of Metroplex, but my life would have been better spent watching a Geico commercial and I don't even own a car.THAT SAID: Holy muffin factory I love this movie! It took pretty much everything I loved about the original G1 Transformers cartoon but added greater depth of character, seriousness, emotional impact, and better dialogue. It seems to have inspired Evangelion in terms of believing that consistent size scale is something for Other People, but whether the cassette minibots fit inside Blaster's hand or are half his height, the action is better than anything from the cartoon save perhaps a handful of the series' greatest moments. I'm sure there's dozens of plotholes but I'm too busy enjoying the movie for the 20th or 40th time to care. I have worn out at least 2 VHS copies of this movie, possibly 3, so a DVD of it was quite worth the ridiculous price I paid (I think I paid about $80). Given the original animation and resolution, I really doubt the Blu-Ray will give you any quality the DVD won't, but I'm not an audio and visual-phile nor an expert in multimedia hardware.Worthwhile features include different formats/ratios for screen size, and IIRC a bunch of sound settings that matter to people who own more expensive sound systems than the speakers built into their TV. While I don't remember if this version has Spike swearing, it is the more original - for lack of a better term - version of the movie before they added a second narrator introduction that plays during the opening credits and makes some of the original narrator's ("From secret staging grounds on 2 of Cybertron's moons...") dialogue redundant. Which, if you're me, matters WAY more than it should.Did I mention I love this movie?

Il miglior film sui Transformers
Acquistato moltissimi anni fa in versione DVD e ce l'ho ancora. Rimane ancora il miglior film sui Transformers ed è godibilissimo anche in upscaling su TV 4K fino a 43 pollici.

Without it you will be confused like I was
This movie is a must for anyone who is a Transformers fan. It ties seasons 2- 3 together. I bought it because I didn't understand the series change with Optimus Prime and many Autobots plus Megatron and many Decepticons being gone and new ones being added to the show. This movie explains the answer. It ties the seasons together. Without it you will be confused like I was, but now I understand, and you will also. This movie explains the confusion and new characters such as Rodimus Prime and Galvatron and others. It's a must buy.
