I like the changeable meshes, but the fine one came loose from the edge the first time it was used.
I use them for sorting used potting mix into different size grades, so I can recycle it.

Competitive price to DIY with more mesh size options.
I bought the sieve set that comes with five mesh sizes for around $29. I decided to buy this setup based on having five different gauge inserts for the overall cost. I'm going to sift 4.5 cu ft of material a few times a year which is really not very much. If I was sifting a large amount of material often enough I would build my own sieves. To make your own sieve is relatively expensive now a days. At my local hardware store to buy a two foot tall by five or ten foot wide section of steel hardware cloth in one diameter ( 1/4" or 1/2" ) costs $15. So in reality, I could make two large sieves ( 2'x2' or 2x4' ) one in 1/4" and one in 1/2" for about $30 in metal. If motivated one could acquire the wood for the frame and screws / nails / staples for free. Realistically you are looking at another $10-15 in that depending on your choice of wood. The side of the solid metal piece of the sieve has random dents in it. Not sure where those came from and not really a big deal to me since I'll be tossing dirt, sand, rocks, leaves, compost, etc into it. I went through and pushed and pulled on each of the five inserts to make sure the outside rim was holding the metal grate in well. All seems to be okay in that regard for me. I saw a photo posted in another review where that was an issue.Primary con for me is the shovel. I'd love to save a few dollars and just not include a shovel. I'm sure there are people who appreciate the shovel but it's a solid meh from me. The scoop shape is pretty flat compared to the four other hand shovels I already own. The shovel has a really noticeable burr around the bottom side of the scoop all the way around when you touch it. My guess is that the metal was stamped then pressed into shape. Maybe the burr will go away through use. Otherwise, if you try and debur it manually I'm sure it'll scratch it pretty badly.

Perfect for shell hunting and for rockhounding alike
A fossil hunter, shell hunter or any naturalist who has an interest in rocks, shark teeth, or anything in a creek bed or in the sand should not be without one of these. I love this set of strainers. Each disk is interchangeable but they do not stack. Each one has a different sized grid for what you are dealing with. I had went to the coast before these came in but I had some shells and things in my big ten gallon bucket I still needed to clean and to find smaller finds. This was perfect to get all the big stuff and was able to separate the sand and the shells with ease. This is like a knife for the sand if it is wet and clumped it can slide through clots with ease. I enjoy these and it comes with a shovel too. You can never have too many shovels especially in the naturalist field. This is a perfect tool for looking for the coolest natural treasures.
