A Good Basic Travel Router
I use this travel router to set up a private LAN for multiple devices with a public WiFi internet connection. Sleek, compact and inexpensive, it adds security and operates well on 2.4 GHz offering medium speeds.

Small, powerful router that is easy to setup for OpenVPN.
I bought this to enable access to my local NAS while traveling (based on a recommendation of a co-worker who already uses it for this). It couldn't have been easier to setup.

Affordable VPN router
Small and perfect for streaming devices to get past Geo-restrictions to watch content from other countries. The downside is that it's powered through micro USB instead of USB-C. It does not come with a USB charger so you need one. Works with surf shark wire guard VPN. You can connect your cell phone as an Internet provider in a pinch if necessary. Surf Shark doesn't have a VPN client for Apple TV. This solved the problem.Additional Info. The router runs OpenWRT and supports multiple VPN profiles in memory which can come in handy to access streaming content from across the globe. It supports multiple protocols such as Open VPN, L2TP, IPsec, WireGuard, & IKE2. The company also provides cloud management apps for Android and perhaps Apple. So once you set up your various VPN profiles, switching between them can be done easily with the phone app. Several popular VPN providers are already listed but you can manually set your VPN profiles using your provider vpn.conf from their website or enter it manually with a cell or PC.Here is another plus, if you add an inexpensive ethernet switch to the LAN port, you can connect multiple streaming devices. I use an Apple 4K Gen 3 and a Nvidia Shield TV 2019. My Roku can connect to this router using the built-in 2.4Ghz wifi hotspot this router provides. This won't replace a full home main router unless your needs are very modest. But given its small size, the modest needs of streaming devices, and how small streaming devices like Amazon Sticks, Roku, and Walmart streaming devices are, it is a no-brainer for travel as you can put them inside a case and pack it with your luggage. Just a reminder, this does not come with a USB dongle/charger. But most people have many lying around in draws from old phones.

Easy to setup and works well. Definitely worth the price
We received our unit on time and surprisingly provides a lot of utility for its small size. I used last week in an Orlando Resort/hotel. I was able to attach it as an extender to hotel wifi. It connected after a couple of tries then I was able use my laptop to authenticate to get full access. My vpn worked with no issue’s. It provided excellent coverage throughout the two bedroom condo. On the downside I was not able to get it connect to the Sanford Fl airport wifi. I keep receiving a connection error. I had to connect with my cell and tether it to the unit. Also the unit does not come with a wall charger. You need to have a usb charger for it to work. Definitely recommend. Will be using it on my next trip

Tethering is unreliable
Don't expect reliable tethering with this router. I bought the router for presentations in the field so I could AirPlay my iPad through an Apple TV. Occasionally I wanted to demonstrate a web page with the router tethered to my iPhone. AirPlay was reliable using the router's WiFi, but the router always dropped its connection with the iPhone after a time leaving me to tap dance in my presentations. I tried all the suggestions from the net: updating the firmware, using a MFi certified cable for connecting the iPhone, setting the iPhone to not sleep, turning off the iPhone WiFI and Bluetooth so to share its internet connection USB only, using a high wattage power source for the router. None worked.I replaced this router with a TP-Link AX1502, and its tethering feature works reliably, stays connected, and even displays an indication that it's connected. I can now leave my tap dancing shoes at home.As for this router, I'm resetting it and tossing it in the electronics recycle box.
