I've had the cheap plastic versions before, and this feels much more like the tool of a professional; a bit like HF v. Snap-0n, Matco, or Proto tools.The plastic ones do work and are quite a bit lighter, but this reminds me of some old Proto tools I've got; heavy compared to the new stuff, but still in excellent shape after decades of use and abuse.Definitely a tool I recommend to trade students once they're ready to upgrade from the super cheap entry-level stuff.

Gets the job done, good build quality

I've never had to remove solder before but needed to get one of these tools to finish a project. Because I've never done this before I can't really compare it to anything else. But I can say that I do like the build quality. That was the main reason I opted for this particular sucker, because others being made of plastic, my guess is that they may vary in quality and durability. I did manage to get this clogged a few times, but I am wondering if it was my learning curve or just normal operation with this application. Either way, it felt like it functioned exactly as advertised. The job I needed this on, it did feel slightly undersized though. I don't think this is an issue with the product itself, just the nature of job I was working on, I felt like I needed something with a stronger or continuous suction (although I am not sure those exist or not) it at the very least would have made things go so much faster. The solder I needed to remove has to be removed ENTIRELY or the board will not separate, and I found that I had to go over the pins several times to achieve this result. Again, I feel like this was just a very specific circumstance though as you don't come across these types of pins very often (pain in the back design). When I got to the part of simply removing electronic components, it was significantly easier and found that I only needed to perform the action once. The plastic tubing also held up well, I was surprised as I thought it would melt immediately. I think if you need this for what it is intended for and basic work, it's definitely 5 stars. For me, I am giving it 4 stars because I would hate to use this again on large jobs where you'd need something more like a vacuum. Either way, it did get the job done.

The media could not be loaded. I like this style of solder pump, and have used them before, I have never seen one with recoil. This thing is badass. Powerful, high durability as it's made of metal with ample silicon tips. Exactly what it should be, the inverse of a shotgun. Perfect size, and how can you get more comfortable than zero hard edges. It's great.
