Fantastic!
I bought this book while I was preganant and worried about how to explain where her Daddy was. I love it. Ava asks for it now, she will be 3 in December. Its all about the different kinds of families. Single mom, dad, 2 mommies, 2 daddies, step parents etc... She told me, I don't have a Daddy, not in my house, but he is my family too! I almost cried. It really helps to open up the convo about Daddy. Tonight she said, "My Daddy doesn't live here, but I have an uncle Mike" So flippin'cute. Totally helps to let her know that not every family loks the same.

love it!
this book is SUPER! we have a baby on the way and she is going to be biracial with two mommies, so it seemed like a great book to have for her for when she gets old enough to understand it and also when she starts confronting these types of issues. it was just as we thought it would be...and better!! its a great little book to help address the topic of differences in families/ family dynamics. kudos to the authors! also, the delivery was right on time and the book came in great condition as well. thanks! will do business again!

An great book about all types of families
This is a great book that encapsulates that many forms that families take in our society. Designed for children, it validates that your family is described as being comprised of those people who love you. This book is inclusive and respects diversity in families. All children who read this book will then find their family in the pages of this beautifully written and illustrated book.Susan DoironAuthor of Finding Blue Beach Glass: Uncovering the Extraordinary in the Ordinary A Book About Personal Transformation

A good book for teaching about family diversity
I have had this book for about 3 years and we still read it regularly. It helps my children see that there are lots of different types of families and that this diversity is normal. It helps my children accept the normality of their own family (single parent) and tolerate the variations in their friends' families. My children empathize with the animals and are attracted by the animal imagery.A very good book.

Great family book for kids!
Great book on how to subtly explain to children that their are different kinds of families. I honestly got nervous at times that it was too forward but my six years old niece loves this book and never once mention anything about her unique family.

Subtle and not so subtle bias
The book is better than many, but falls short by not recognizing two moms or two dads as both parents. For now i change the wording when I read it, but when my son can read that won't work. Like another reviewer, i noticed the initial nuclear white family being first. There are some other subtleties that bother me. The only child "sometimes invites her friend to go camping", the assumption being an only child family is incomplete. Same with the two adult family, their pets are their "kids". Single dads are seen playing with their children, single moms are picking up their kids from the sitter. The book does at least have a variety of people of color and talk about skin color which many books don't. There is also a blending in of talking about animal families that is odd, bringing up animal behavior like elephants living in same sex packs. See kids it really is natural, some animals do it too- who is the author trying to convince? All this said, sadly, I have not found one of these all kinds of families book I like better.

Great for Non-traditional Families
We searched for months for a book for our son that showed ALL types of families. This one hit the mark. While the illustrations may not be museum quality, the message is clear and understated. We have used this in our Sunday School class and based a Sunday service on the idea that "Families Valued" are not all plain vanilla. An excellent book to validate YOUR family's configuration.

Family story time
This is a great book to sit down and read together as a family. I enjoyed sharing this story with my children. And hoping to answer any questions that might have come up. I like how there are so many different family's. And how my children are able to see other single parents, like us. I like how well the pictures are, how colourful the story is. The words flow great when reading it out loud.
