Very Informative and Real!
I found this book to be very easy to read and it's so good!! I use lots of the recipes for smoothies and the information on nutrition is very clear and it just makes sense. I've put so many post-its in this book and have bought multiple copies for my best friends. This book has definitely made its way on my book shelf! (And not many do)

Good diet book with some cons
So let’s start with the pros:1. I liked the science the author went into. It made sense and it is empowering to know how my body reacts to the food I eat. Also I liked that she didn’t include sensational claims that aren’t supported by science. You would be surprised at some of the stuff I’ve seen.2. Some of the recipes are good (see cons below on this). I enjoyed all the food related ones.3. The tone of the book is great. Very upbeat. It made me want to follow her eating plan and not self punish and feel guilty every time I eat a cookie.Cons:1. The smoothie recipes are revolting. Really. I’ve tried four different ones and every time I have to choke some of it down and most goes straight down the sink. I even got online and purchased the “primal kitchen coconut vanilla” one her website recommends. Still revolting. Save yourself the money on that one and buy an unflavored collagen on at Costco, called vital proteins or something. I also had to add way more fruit than recommended to get past the taste of the smoothie. I figure better more fruit in the smoothie than eating a waffle loaded with maple syrup and butter....Also, a tip for success on the smoothie I will share: you know that box of leafy greens at the back of your fridge sitting there, about to go bad? Blend it up with some water and freeze it in ice cubes. You can add that to your smoothie in the mornings and it doesn’t taste so “leafy” and you don’t have to toss all the greens about to go bad in your fridge.2. I wish the recipes had larger servings. Most aredesigned for one to two people. I have a husband who eats for two and two kids. The amount of math I have to do for these recipes drives me insane. I like the recipes but wish they were written for a family and not for one person. This is the same in her other book “Body Love:Everyday”.

I can tell this book is going to change my life!
Eat more fats?! Kelly does it and she is not fat! She is skinny and glowingI! There must be something to this Fab 4 strategy. I have been trying to lose weight for years on and off. I struggle with binge eating and drinking, and I realize now after getting into her book that the insulin roller coaster I was putting my body through was very damaging and led to chronic weight gain. I also see that I was not eating enough healthy fats or fiber at EVERY meal to keep me full and satisfied so I did not feel the need to binge or snack. I cannot wait to try the freezer fudge when my intense chocolate cravings kick in. This book is so smart, but yes I agree technical and repetitive. But her concept is life changing for me. Bring on the healthy fats! Stabilize blood sugar! I have been introduced to so many new ingredients like ghee, MCT oil, coconut oil/milk, (bulletproof coffee) monkfruit, stevia and tahini. In just a few days I already can tell how the Fab 4 shakes and meals keep you full, and you can up the fats and fiber if you need to. I love her approach and perspective on wellness and feel empowered, healthy and hopeful. All you have to do is stock your fridge and pantry with the right ingredients - those that you like! Limit ALL sugar (incl. fruits) and carbs, and increase healthy fats, fiber and protein. I am just getting into the book, and still trying to wrap my head around ditching the steel cut oatmeal I eat for breakfast mostly before the gym, but so far I am reading that any carbohydrate will spike your blood sugar eventually because they are digested into glucose, and Kelly is trying to avoid that. I like that her aim is to first make sure you have the Fab 4 ingredients ready to eat, and then add the sugars if you need or want. I think that one challenge will be to prepare myself or eating out, like bringing raw almonds in my purse to add to a meal out if if does not seem balanced.I used to be starving all day, snacking left and right, even starving after I drank a huge protein shake after the gym, like it lit up my appetite instead of satiating me. This is because there was not the Fab 4 in it, for me too much fruit, and not enough healthy fats and fiber.Where has Kelly been my whole life!? This strategy that she suggests makes so much sense. Turning off hunger hormones with the Fab 4 is exactly what I have been needing to do!

Nothing new here
I thought the book was well written and the author obviously has an extensive background in food science. In a nutshell - her eating plan is high protein, low carb, moderate fat. No gluten, no dairy, no sugar, no soy, no processed food. Her philosophy is that in order to keep blood sugar levels stable throughout the day, she recommendeds 3 meals per day and ideally no snacks. Each meal contains a "Fab Four" ingredient- protein, fat, fiber and greens. Fruit is limited to 1/4-1/2 cup of berries per day. All other fruits may be eaten once or twice a week. - again only a very small portion of 1/2 cup or less. Grains are limited to gluten free and only 1/4 - 1/2 cup per day at most. Breakfast is essentially a protein shake made with water or nut milk with the addition of 1-2 Tbsps of fat (MCT oil, coconut oil, nuts or avocado), and 1-2 Tbsps of fiber (chia seeds, flax, avocado), and a handful of greens such as spinach. Will you lose weight, feel good, and be healthy eating like this? Yes - most likely! However, it is pretty restrictive and requires a lot of discipline.

FAB Book
I adore Kelly. I'm her number one fan. This book is insightful, it has helped me lose a stone in a healthy way that has lead to lifestyle changes for a better mindset towards food and the way we consume it.The book itself isn't the best printed book I own but it's theory is undeniably accurate and that is ultimately the goal of the book.

it is a diet
she keeps saying its not a diet but it is, soup for Sunday dinners?! Recipes horrid but it is possible to tailor a fab four smoothie to suit your taste & they do keep you full up. As a scientist I see through some of the science. Horrified at fat tea, tea with Irish Kerrygold butter, Irish people would consider that a crime to ruin a good cup of tea.
