This solar fan is so basic, I don't think it is worth the approx. $33 I paid. However it was the best option for the price and it works fantastic to vent humidity out of my greenhouse. It spins the fan in VERY low light and while the full spin in strong light is not enough to significantly reduce the temperature in the green house (which is fine by me) it works perfect for managing the humidity and preventing the heat from reaching too high a temperature.

The fan moves very little air. I installed 1 fan in my 5X8 tool shed just to keep some hot air out. I smoke tested it and the smokey air just lingered. I had high hopes but I don't think it was worth the money.

Five Years And Still Working
I purchased this for my outhouse and it still runs after five years pulling unwanted odors out. Easy to install on a 4" pipe

Works Well In Shed
I installed this vent into the roof of a Rubbermaid shed I use to store gasoline and other flammables. It works well to reduce heat buildup during the day. The unit is self contained and weatherproof so I don't have to worry about sparks. It actually runs so fast on a sunny day that it hums. Installation took about an hour, the biggest problem was making a snug 4 1/2 inch round hole that I could caulk to prevent water leakage. I would recommend the square version of this vent if you don't happen to have a hole saw that big but do have a saber saw.I rated it four stars because it doesn't move as much air as I hoped for, you might want to install two in larger sheds. The unit is well made but I still plan to remove the fan unit in winter. The fan unit locks into the base ring like a smoke dector so I can easily take it off and cover the hole. I have found that items made in warm climates don't usually survive freezing Michigan winters.

Needs direct sunlight
I bought this for my shed door but it faces west so there was not enough sun. Make sure your planned location is south facing and in full view of the sun or it will not run/charge. I had to return it.

Works
I had a vent hole in the top of my van that just had a cap and no fan. I removed the cap, and all that was left was the tube. I got lucky that this vent fit right into the hole. Small tabs on the vent locked it into position. All I did was put some silicone around the edge to seal it in. The fan started running right out of the box. All I could suggest is, it could use a on/off switch for cold weather. Other than that, it works nice to keep some fresh air flowing through my vehicle.

Great Fans for my Shed
I bought two of these 10-12 years ago for my metal shed. Just to circulate the air. One finally quit spinning and the other still works. I bought two (saved on shipping) so that I would have a replacement for the other when it quits. They won't lift the hair off you head when standing below, but then again my 12'x12' shed has all day to ventilate. The ring photo (6.75) inches is the same size diameter as the ring of the body. I removed the L shaped clips and simply glued the fan to the metal shed with 40 years caulk
