Night light does not come on. What is the trick? The touch sensor does nothing.

It might be defective. I barely touch my sensor and it instantly cycles through off and three brightness levels.

Do you have to jam the skinny pole at the bottom to f the plug and pole in the outlet? It’s hard pushing the pole into the bottom hole outlet aligned

FIRST, try removing your outlet cover, by removing the small screw right in the middle of it. That should help you align the "skinny" pole with the ground hole in the lower socket, while you also push the extender's prongs into the top socket. then use the screw in the new extender to help pull it into a tighter fit. Just make sure you aren't cross-threading the screw into the threads in the receptacle. You'll get it, just have patience with the procedure. Enjoy!

Is there a way to baby proof this?

I would say no, unless you can get individual covers for the electric receptacles. The USB ports should not be dangerous (IMO).
