An Unfortunate Experience in Buying, Selling, and Returning
This purchase was an unfortunate experience. I received the item in perfect condition, attached it to my DSL and with the help of Century Link was able to get connected to the internet. After a few days I had to "reset" the unit. A few days later I had to do the same thing. Then a few days later I was unable to do the "reset", which means disconnecting the power cord for a few minutes, re-connecting the power cord, then letting it re-start, about 3 to 5 minutes. Because I was unable to "reset", nothing happened when I reconnected the power cable, I contacted Amazon, as I was instructed. At that time I read some of the Customer Reviews and saw that many other customers were have similar problems. Amazon, true to their nature, sent me a return authority and notified the "Amazon Seller" of my problem. The seller then instructed me to return the item as I received it for a refund. The seller was a bit reluctant to give me a refund, he tested the item, it worked for him, and told me he would return it to me. At that point I involved Amazon to bring an end to this sale. Now, my only option to having the internet in my home was to purchase another item of the same brand, make. Century Link would not support any other product for me. I purchased the same item at Best Buy for about the same price, connected it and experienced the same problem. This time Century Link techs had a little more experience with this product, made some adjustments and could keep the unit working. I still have disconnects from the internet but the "reset" seems to solve the problem. It is annoying to have to do the "reset" especially if I am in the middle of a project, or, when I first turn on the computer for the day, but I don't see any other choice. I am sure the unit I bought from Amazon would have given me the same service. The "unfortunate" part of this whole story is that neither Amazon or their "seller" had checked out the situation with Century Link and would have saved everyone a lot of trouble and bother.

Unit works well once successfully activated
Externally, the unit shows some minor wear, but the most important thing is that it works correctly, and it does. I purchased the unit to use with my newly-activated CenturyLink DSL internet service on an existing CenturyLink landline. There were enclosed instructions for activating this used unit, such as restoring the modem to its factory default state. Ultimately it took a call to CenturyLink customer support, which the instructions recommended doing, to get it up and running with CenturyLink's assigned PPP username and password. I've had no problems with the unit since its successful activation a month ago and its wireless signal is strong. The used unit I received is a Model C1000A-D, which has an a 1.5A DC output power adapter. My older Model C1000A used for a different phone line, in a different house, has a 1.0A power adapter, which has required the use of a wifi extender in the house. So maybe this later version used unit has better signal strength, for this reason. I don't know. Amazon initially sent me an email order confirmation, but not the follow up notice for when the unit shipped. It was shipped to me very timely, none the less. The unit, along with its AC adapter, two cables and instructions were packaged well, but there was no enclosed shipping record, so I would say - save your shipping box label should you have to return the unit for some reason.

Works just as good as their $200 modem, for us.
Got this for our DSL internet. For c_ntury link, our old modem would keep cutting off and on.This hooked up real easy. Good instructions. But then a week later we decided to upgrade our service speed from 12 mbps to 30 mbps which is the fastest we can get here.I was thinking we would have to get a different modem since -They said this one will not support the fast bundled dls internet.I got a bran new $200 modem from c_ntury link. But before i returned this one i tried it with the new service of 30 mbps. And Guess what. This one works just as good as their $200 modem from c_ntury link (for the speed we are talking about 30mbps).Now if you are needing higher speed than 30mbps then it may not work, but for us it works. So I sent back the new expensive one and am going to keep this $65 old school one.I am very happy. Hope it lasts and it should, seems really well made. And there are a lot of great review out there about this modem/router. Thank you

If you are a Centurylink business DSL customer like we are
Mixed feelings on these routers. I have been through 5-6 of these modem/routers of 5 years or so. If you are a Centurylink business DSL customer like we are, you have very limited options for respectable routers. This C1000A offers all the basic features you might expect to want, but the devil is in the details. I doubt they are doing any ongoing firmware development. What you see is what you get.I have a lot of stuff plugged into my network. My attached device list is 18-22 items long. It is very important to me to be able to label and manage my various items. I find that I have to keep re-labeling the IP addresses because the C1000A keeps forgetting what I labeled what. It offers a fixed list of device t types. When I add my own custom label for an item on the list of devices, I frequently have to miss describe the type (computer, router, camera, gameboy, etc) because the particular device type is not on the list of types. Would have been nice to allow me to add my own device types if it is not the list.I have had 4 of these C1000A fail over the years, so I find having a brand new one on standby is a necessity. SO, I just buy them on Internet 2 at a time, when ordering.
