🌿 Cultivate greatness with every grain!
Akadama Bonsai Soil is a premium volcanic soil sourced from Japan, expertly sifted to remove dust and small particles. With a 7mm grain size, it provides excellent drainage and aeration, essential for healthy root development. The soil darkens when wet, serving as a visual cue for watering, and is versatile enough for various plants, including succulents and bonsai.

Incredible so far!
As with most plant and bonsai stuff, it takes time to fully know if something works amazing or terrible! I was new to the world of bonsais, and in February I finally planted my first two! These are Flame Trees, aka Delonix Regia/Royal Poinciana and as you can see they grew extremely fast! The larger is up to 4”! So I did all the research I could for this plant and learned everything that could help them grow! A grow light and heating mat were I believe a great help for indoors especially it being a tropical tree. When we found the best soil combination of lava rock, pumice, and bark fines, as well as akadama. We found tinyroots to have amazing reviews! We did their tropical blend and from what I could find out that blend didn’t contain akadama. So we purchased this to mix in! We did about 1 part akadama to about 7 parts tropical blend just to be safe, then sprinkled a few akadama on top after plants were planted. So far amazing! I did squeeze the pieces of akadama to test strength and they did not crumble! We did sift them, as the shipping I think causes some dust and crumble but very happy! Will keep using and if this changes we will update review!

Only place I can buy this
This is the perfect planting g medium for bonsai and succulents. I live in a remote area and our garden center does not carry this.

Several product options available through Tinyroots.
I got some akadama from this line a few years ago, but the same product was not available this time around. While the product looks the same ( a kind of soft-fired clay) the particle size is much larger, about 1/4" each. I thought this was too big for my little olive tree, so I mashed up the product into smaller size. Looks OK, and so far, the olive tree seems to like it.

The real stuff
The size to buy if you have 5-6 trees. Surprisingly hard to find locally, despite my living in a large city with a big bonsai tradition. Amazon seems to be the way to go with this stuff.
