Hotel Portofino: Season One

A beautiful production. Fine writing and acting. Has good characters and a interesting storyline. It makes you feel like you are living in 1920 Italy. The period costumes are perfect. Worth watching and look forward to seeing season two.

Great show in the vein of downton abbey it’s also a great book too!

Saw one episode last night and it was nothing short of sensational, what a series, love it! A great buy.

I quickly became overwhelmed by the ridiculous number of similar-looking young actresses playing various roles. The lead trapped in a disastrous marriage where the husby is an absolute TODGER is a conceit that's been played to no end and incredibly boring. I lost interest midway as to where the meandering, overly-developed plotlines were going and stopped watching. I am sure I'm not missing out on anything.

This series has gorgeous, filmed on location scenery. It looks like most of the interior shots and street scenes were shot in the studio. Almost all the extras look British - I saw one or two actors who looked genuinely Italian. The characters are very one dimensional - the dialogue is straight from a soap opera. They tried to mix aspects from several successful Masterpiece series (Downton Abbey, Upstairs Downstairs) but the end result is a trite soap opera and not nearly as good as the two series previously mentioned. If you are planning a Viking cruise (the sponsors) this may help you pinpoint where you want to go on the Italian Riviera. I found the whole thing to be a boring, a waste of time and slightly irritating.

Great show for fans of cozy mystery shows.

Have just finished watching the dvd having binge watched it. Great acting, beautiful scenery and lovely costumes it is a cross between miss marple and an Agatha Christie “who done it”. Can recommend.

I purchased this DVD through the Australian site, it appears that it has come from the UK and can’t be played here in Australia.
