BAL 28050 Light Trailer Tire Leveler

My family has been using pop up campers since I was a child and I have finally purchase my own! I have a 2011 Jayco Jay 1007 that has a gross weight of about 2,950 lbs. I am a bit new to towing a vehicle. Moving forward is no problem for me now that I've taken a few trips and gotten used to making wide turns and using my mirrors! However, backing up is a whole new world that makes me a bit anxious and causes me to use an abnormal amount of curse words; I want to do as little of it as possible. After going on a few trips with the Jayco and having to go through the process of leveling by adding/subtracting pieces of wood under my low-side tire (back up, pull forward, repeat), I knew that I wanted a simpler solution. The BAL Tire Leveler is that solution! Here are my thoughts: Things I like: * Simplicity. I maneuver myself into the campsite, chock the high side, place the BAL, adjust the height, and I'm done! * Security. I was always uncomfortable putting a bunch of boards under my wheel but the BAL removes all of my worry; the camper feels VERY stable * Its serves as its own tire chock....I know that thing isn't going anywhere without my permission * Price. I've seen this product in Camping World and other stores for over $100 Things to consider: * Height needs: most campground sites are going to be pretty level but I bring my Jayco to a lot of music festivals where you're setting up in a field or some other, ungraded piece of land where I've needed to do a lot of leveling work in the past. I'm a bit concerned that this might not raise the tire enough in some of these places and I'm not sure what I'll do if this ends up being the case. I may need to go back to adding some boards under the tire before placing the BAL...which I was hoping to avoid. We shall see. All other places, though, I have no concerns about whatsoever * Its a bit difficult to raise. The one that I have came with a ratchet to adjust the jack height. The wheel blocks it from making full rotations so I have to ratchet it and...well...when I have a lot of height to cover, it was slow going and I needed to take some breaks. That's not a big deal to me though as I might just be weak. I'll get over it but its something to consider if you don't feel like spending 10 minutes jacking this thing up All in all: I love this product and I'll be recommending it to others! The peace of mind that I feel from the provided stability and set up simplicity makes up for any extra time that I may need to put in on VERY unleveled surfaces

This is a great leveler for a teardrop, squaredrop, or popup camper. It might even work with smaller traditional RV trailers if they have a single axle and smallish wheels. The unit is made from heavy tube steel and plate with a beefy screw mechanism for raising/lowering. Once you've got the leveler in place and engaged, it does double duty as a very solid wheel chock. This was part of the appeal for me. Trying to chock both wheels when using lego-style plastic drive-on blocks at a wonky site is difficult. I'm always afraid my trailer will roll off of the blocks. The BAL leveler eliminates that concern. If you need the full 4" of rise, expect to spend 5-10 minutes with the included ratchet wrench. It takes a lot of turns to reach full extension. In spite of rating this a 5, I had to return it. My trailer has 215/75R15 off road tires, and those turned out to be too big. When I did a test fitting at home, I was able to get the leveler in place in my mildly sloped gravel parking pad, but only after digging some of the gravel away on the uphill side of the tire. This should have been a red flag, because if you're on bedrock, concrete, or asphalt, you can't dig anything away. On our first trip to a state park RV jungle (ugh), the pad was asphalt and half a bubble off level. I was not able to use the BAL leveler - couldn't get it under the tire because of the slope. So we spent the weekend listing slightly to the left :). Thankfully, this was 29 days after purchase, and there was signal at the campground, so I was still able to initiate a return. I think for this device to work reliably, you should have at least an inch of clearance between the plates and your tire on flat ground. I'm not docking any stars for this, because the item description is technically correct ("fits 13, 14, and most 15 inch tires"). But it'd be really nice if they would instead publish minimum and maximum tire diameter measurements.

Works great with an older pop-up camper. Easy to use, stable, and durable. I did replace the wrench right away, after reading reviews. Also put a bit of grease on the plate where the rod nests. Used this leveler for a busy season of camping, no issues.

We're new to pop up trailer camping, so this has been an excellent product that relieves a lot of stress involved with setting up. There's no guesswork, no trial and error, no backing into or pulling into something. After parking the camper, you slide this around the tire, use an included ratchet wrench to push it up, and viola. Plus, this effectively acts as a perfect chock, so no risk of the camper moving unexpectedly. We've used this probably a half dozen or so times now, and every time it's easy and intuitive to use. Only negative aspect is that if your camper is particarly unlevel at a campsite (one that we stayed at was fairly sloped along the entire campsite, side to side), you'll need to crank the wrench quite a number of times, and after the first dozen or so cranks, you might start popping some sweat or have to switch arms. It somewhat slowly lifts the camper with each half-turn of the screw, which is good for accuracy and stablity, but does require some endurance. The unit is also heavy, so if you're storing it inside your collapsed pop up, like we do, you better have a good back and be ready to take the weight entirely in your forearms. Otherwise, nothing but a positive experience so far. I've been recommending this to everyone else getting a pop up camper, and have seen exactly one person complain about it (without stating what the problem was, so maybe they were just a whiner).

Bought this to use with our single-axle popup. It is sturdy and easily levels and stabilizes the camper. My only caveat is, as others have noted, it is sometimes a tight fit under a 15" wheel. I bought a small camp shovel to dig out small trenches on either side of the tire when needed. In the past, I have used a small scissor jack to raise the tire enough to slide the leveler underneath. I am very satisfied with the ease of leveling the trailer, the stability once it is level, and how easy it is to adjust if it settles into soft soil after a few days.

Updating my review after talking to the manufacturer. We have a Coachmen Clipper V-TREK V2 pop-up camper with 15" wheels. The BAL leveler is very easy to use, or at least I think it would be if it weren't broken. We bought ours used on Amazon, and discovered the hex head on the threaded rod was broken when we tried to use it on a trip (see pics). The manufacturer indicated the hex head is swaged onto the threaded rod and may break if an impact drill is used to raise the leveler. Most likely the previous buyer used an impact drill, broke it, glued it back on, and returned it (I'm assuming Amazon didn't try to glue it and resale it!). The swaged threaded rod assembly is presumably strong enough to meet the weight spec when used properly. I'd suggest avoiding purchasing used unless you use it to lift your trailer during the return period because this type of damage won't be detectable by visual inspection alone. And don't use an impact drill! We were able to use a vice grip to raise and lower the leveler (we have added one to our tool bag in case this happens again). BAL sells replacement screws (part plus shipping to CO cost us $41 so we ended up paying $10 more all said and done for this used one than a brand new one cost, ug), so at least we will be able to fix it. Some reviewers mentioned having difficulty sliding the leveler into place. On soft ground we put our stabilizers down to momentarily take pressure off the tire so we could slide the BAL leveler in. This wouldn't be necessary for campers with smaller wheels.

This jack had rave reviews for good reason. It is simple to use and fits our 15" tires. Like the instructions tell you do NOT use a drill and it will only work for part of the work anyway. The ratcheted wrench that comes with it works great. It IS heavy and bulky, however, and with a popup tent trailer there is no extra storage room. So my engineer husband designed a super rack that he welded to the bumper of the trailer. When we fold our trailer down I will take more pictures to show the locking mechanism etc. We also liked the the fact that after lifting the trailer it acted as a chock. We had no worries that it would roll off.

My husband and I purchased this Light Trailer Tire Leveler for our Jayco J Series Popup Camper on the recommendation of our brother-in-law. Well, it is the one thing for our camping setup that we never realized we needed until the first time we used it. It helped getting the popup level and setup much easier. Mind you, the two of us go camping an average of 1-2 times a month from March through to October. We go to various PA State Parks. We have had sites that are anywhere from pretty level to down right almost impossibly not level. Still, through working as a team and doing what plays up to our individual strengths, we got our routine down to a science. When we added the Light Trailer Tire Leveler to the mix, it helped to shave our time almost by half. It really helps with tear down too. If you don't have one if these and you find that you need to level off your light camper or trailer, this is a huge time saver and it is amazingly easy to use. This really give you the ability to use the legs of your camper for what they were designed to do, stabilize. The only negative that I have for this product is that the ratchet wrench that came with the leveler was of poor quality. I stopped using it after the first time and replaced it with my own socket ratchet wrench. The supplied ratchet wrench would jump/skip out of the locked position (didn't matter if I was lifting or lowering the low tire of the camper) while using it. However, once I replaced it with my own socket ratchet wrench, lifting and lowering of the leveler went smoothly.

This is a game changer no more pushing trailer tent back and forth my trailer has 10 inch wheels and it works great very good product and company

Wow, this is heavy duty and works so easily with the included rachet wrench. So worth it. I've been camping and leveling side to side now just takes a couple of minutes. Absolutely worth it.

Can’t believe we didn’t get this sooner. Up until our last trip we’ve been using a combination of leveling blocks and chocks, it worked but never exactly level and looked very unstable. This was so easy and quick, leveled the trailer exactly where I needed with just a few cranks, and will definitely help at home as our driveway is a gradual slope. I really recommend to improve the quality of your camping!

This was recommended by many other camper/ caravan owners and I understand why. This makes it very easy to level without using those dreadful blocks! I was worried about damage as it arrived in a very broken box, however, everything was intact. It is easy to use and I will also add my own recommendations.
