Way too predictable
While reading this book, it was as if I knew what the next page was going to say without even reading it. Everything was just way to perfect. Every problem the characters encountered was still so perfect that it didn't even create any suspense, but rather put off the inevitable perfect ending. (Not like that's really a spoiler.)I read Richard Paul Evans' The Walk books, and I loved them... I can't wait for the next one to come out. What I love about these books, is that he provides interesting information, a variety of characters in a variety of circumstances, which brought them to life and made the events and individuals seem real. My husband, who also read The Walk book after I recommended it to him, even looked up at one point during his reading and asked if it was based on a true story. Therefore, I thought I would like other books by Richard Paul Evans as well. However, the characters in The Sunflower are very flat, one-dimensional characters. It's impossible to imagine them as real people. The story line is flat as well, with no real building of action or turning points. I think if the entire story had been told from the doctor's perspective, it would have produced a more believable plot and we might have seen him develop as a dynamic character. The only reason I gave this story two stars instead of one, is because of my own personal philosophy about not saying "hate." (Next to the one star rating it say, "I hate it.") I don't wish that I would have never read it, and I've definitely read worse. However, I don't believe it was worth the money at all. If it would have been one dollar, I might have enjoyed it for the cheap book that it is.Save your money on this one.

Surprisingly Great Novel
Honestly, I wasn't expecting much when I read this book. It is definitely a book a female audience might appreciate more than a male one, but it's a surprisingly romantic and sincere novel just the same. It was a page turner, and it allows the reader to escape into the lives of people living a selfless lifestyle in quite a raw environment. I enjoyed the escapism I experienced while reading it. It made me want to pack my suitcase and have an adventure. This book read a bit like a romantic movie. It had everything from adventure to little kids to illness to a hot man who selflessly dedicates his life to helping children and, of course, to love. That being said, I would recommend this book to anyone looking for an easy, entertaining read with a bit of depth to make the story and characters a bit more well-rounded and fleshed out rather than 2-dimensional stereotypes. It was a bit of an obvious story-line, but sometimes I am in the mood for obvious told in a different way. The author succeeded in doing that.

A Heart Warming Story
In all honesty, I guess I would have to say the story didn't really have a strong impact on me, because it's only been about three weeks since I finished it, and I can't remember a whole lot about it. I do remember it appeared that the author put himself into the story in the beginning to set the tone, and the fact that his descriptions of the landscape are so vivid, one would assume he had to have been there. It's a typical romance type novel, however, with a "they lived happily ever after" ending. The kind of endings that I like, by the way.If I remember, there were a few instances where there were some POV problems with author slipping from third person to first person, or vice-versa, I don't really remember which. All in all, however, It's a touching story well worth the time to read.

Mind opener, wonderful story
One of my favourite authors has done it again. Takes you from a life in the US to Peru where children are being used for illegal trade. How a small orphanage plays such a major role in helping street kids. It also gives you an insight into a beautiful human love story between the major characters in the story. I definitely recommend this one.
