Gen Yamaguchi 1896-1976 followed his own muse, consistent with his independent approach to life and art. He experimented constantly, manipulating his materials and images as he sought to achieve innovative results. Sōsaku hanga (literally "creative prints"?) was an art movement in early 20th-century Japan, during the Taishō and Shōwa periods. It advocated the principles of "self-drawn" (jiga), "self-carved" (jikoku) and "self-printed" (jizuri) art, stressing the artist, motivated by a desire for self-expression, as the sole creator. These are individually printed using the very finest inks and paper. You will see and feel the Quality the instant you pick up and examine them. They are suitable for framing.
