Disconnects, doesn't work for huge data transfer on my laptop
Pros: Cheap Good for small amount of data transfer at low speed Cons: The USB plug is not sturdy, it disconnects at the slightest touch Disconnects when the SDD/HDD drive is accessed frequently When a third party software is used, the HDD is detected as a "Mass storage device" and not as a "HDD" /"SSD" device My environment: Laptop, tried with both SSD/HDD (2TB) Verdict: I would not recommend it. You'll end up losing your data due to random disconnection. Pay a little more and get a good one. Details: This may work for some people who would use the drive for storing small amount of data at a time. But this is not suitable for bulk transfers. In my case, when I connect a HDD or SSD, it works for sometime and then disconnects when the I access it frequently. I didn't get good results when I used a drive clone software either. Data was missing and I always ended up with a non-bootable drive. This works probably on HDDs which utilize less power or on a desktop.

Useful for using laptop hard disk externally
I had an old laptop harddisk which I wanted to use an external drive to store files, and this thing serves the purpose. My old drive has some mounting on it, which protects the drive from external condition, so I did not want to remove it, and without removing that I could not fit it into the case adapter. Hence, this item came to the rescue. It is just a simple connector cable, which connects laptop HDD/SSD to USB 3.0 of the laptop/desktop port, and it is very simple to use. Just connect and use. Read and Write speeds are normal as they are. It also features a LED indicator. Cable length is kind of short, but okay with it. It serves the purpose it was supposed to solve, and it is much recommended one. P.S: this is not for 3.5 inches desktop HDDs, only for 2.5 inches.

Yes, you can use 3.5" HDD but only in Desktop envirionment and with a trick
You will need a Male-Female SATA cable or you can improvise by shaving one head of your spare SATA cable. • Power the HDD using SATA power cable from SMPS. • Only connect the SATA (data) cable to this adapter. Female port to HDD and Male port to the adapter. Can't be used for long term as you would need to slip the SATA (data) cable inside the Cabinet (Case) if your HDD is inside the Cabinet (Case) or take the SATA Power cable out of the Cabinet (Case) if you HDD is out. But it will serve the purpose of data recovery. In my case my Intel Optane module failed and as a result the HDD went offline. My first unit was defective giving 1~2MB/Sec read speed but the replacement unit is fine. Hope this will help others in need.
