Great image quality
I’m still working out placement but the camera has already had compliments from people on the other end of video calls. They said the image was very clear. I was using the camera on my Surface Book and this is better. The camera has a rotating switch on the front the physically closes the camera shutter over the lens. This allows you to be confident nobody could see you even if they managed to hack in… which is pretty unlikely these days but is technically possible. The camera has an LED ring light that can be cycled through 3 settings when turned on; cold, warm and a mixture of the two. You can also turn the light off entirely. The microphone also works well and picks up my voice perfectly in calls. The only negative I would give is I’ve struggled to find a place to put it. It comes with a little tripod but otherwise doesn’t have a good clip which would have been more useful for me and my potential locations for placement.

GPFATTRY 1080 HD Webcam - overall, pretty decent for the price
A webcam is a webcam when you are considering one at budget prices - at least, that is what I thought given the "several" budget webcams I own. This GPFATTRY brand does, though, excel over them in some areas.I was totally underwhelmed at first because the box it came in was a small, frail, plain white card construction that was barely big enough to hold the contents. Given this is supposed to be a fragile piece of equipment I would have expected packaging a little more substantial. Inside this almost-useless box was the camera - fully folded, not much bigger in size or shape than a hockey puck - a little desk-top tripod and a flimsy instruction leaflet that took just seconds to glance at.I tested this camera using a Windows 10 gaming desktop machine hooked up to a 4K Ultra HD monitor. The seller states the USB is both USB 3 and USB 2. I plugged into the USB 2 port which is generally slower overall when compared with USB 3. I then used several online websites designed to test webcams and microphones, finishing off with the inbuilt Windows Camera app (which I don't use because I see no point in it to be honest but I opened it for this test).Firstly, it was a bit of a fiddle "opening" the puck to get the camera into position. I feel the shape was a bit too bulky for a "modern" monitor, there was too much room for the webcam to wander around. Not only that, my monitor is almost edge to edge on the top and sides rather than the older monitor versions that have bulky plastic surrounds - I think this webcam (like so many others) is designed for bulky plastic surrounds. I don't like resting anything on my monitor screen, even for a short time, but I dared it with this webcam and was grateful, at least, for the tiny scrap of felt that had been glued on the plastic section at the front designed to rest against a monitor. For longer term use, I would certainly have to consider a better way of fixing the webcam.Longer term use? As I said at the start, I thought all budget webcams were pretty much the same - decent enough visuals, adequate audio, almost always giving a red-face appearance that would have to be cleaned up via software or a total change of the living room lighting. Well, almost all of that does apply to this particular webcam aside from one - the quality of the visuals was outstanding compared with my other webcams.I have several cams that purport to be 30 fps (frames per second) and each one of them are actually slightly blurry when compared with the sharp image this present webcam produces, and each one of them show jerky movement when I move whereas this present webcam could follow my every movement without any jerking and without slowing down. Okay, I am not likely to be exercising or running a marathon when using a webcam but it was nice to know that if I moved in my chair then my visuals would not be jagged or extra-blurry.The lighting ring was interesting since most don't include this and at first I wondered if it was simply a gimmick in order to charge a little higher price. But it works - although having the camera with ring light on at eye level can be a bit blinding because at a close distance it is quite powerful. To change the colour of the light is simple, a gentle tap on the button at the base of the light - obviously being careful you don't knock the webcam off the monitor. The audio was average, nothing to complain about but nothing to admire either. In use it was so easy. Plug in, wait a few seconds for Windows to do its business, camera up and ready to operate. There is a large silvery ring in the centre that must be turned to select on/off. This is actually the lens cover (for privacy) but it was a pain! The mechanism was a bit jerky and felt quite cheap. In fact, this single aspect is only part of this webcam that I felt was poor! The 90 degree angle of the camera might not sound much but it is actually very wide. During testing, especially when using Windows own Camera app, my upper body was sited nicely in the centre of the screen with my sitting about 1m back but the camera angle took in a large part of my room - bookcase on one side, CD racks and sofa with throws on the other. Using this with family and friends would be fine but for professional use I would have to erect a background behind me for "privacy". However, that being said, I was amazed by the sharpness of the image of the room behind me. I could clearly make out every item, even titles of books, and the sofa with throws had every design and colour perfectly captured - and it is around 3m behind.Priced at £45.99 at the time of this review (and if you are quick, there is a voucher offer on the Amazon sales page) this is at the top end of what I would consider a budget webcam. Camera, ring light, dual microphones (audio will be mono but at least they pick up the necessary sounds), compact, very lightweight, fully plug and play, an ability to be used with other operating systems as listed by the seller, extraordinarily good visuals, 30 fps that is actually 30 fps and doesn't blur/jerk when moving... Aside from my complaint about the lens privacy cover and the fact it isn't really designed for modern "borderless" monitors, I couldn't find anything to fault this webcam model and will enjoy using it time and again. Although there are some nice quality webcams available at a cheaper price, I would certainly recommend taking a look at this model because its visual performance is certainly worth the money.

A strange looking camera, it does 1080p at 30fps
GPFATTRY 1080P HD Webcam for PC with Dual Microphone Streaming Webcam with Privacy Cover .......Visit the GPFATTRY StoreThis HD webcam comes in a small cardboard box that contains the camera, ‘spider’ tripod, small lens cleaning cloth and an instruction leaflet. This is a very strange looking camera, when flat it stands 40mm high and has a wide round base / front of 70mm. There was a noticeable rattle when I removed it from the box, but this turned out to be the privacy shutter on the front which is an iris type that is opened and closed by turning the camera front bezel. On the rear of the base is a none slip pad, I thought it was a sticky pad but after removing the cellophane covering, it just appears to be none-slip rubber. There is also a standard ¼” threaded (metal) hole in the bottom for mounting on a tripod. The tripod supplied is one of those cheap spider leg tripods, however it does have a metal 1/4” stud which is much better than the plastic ones as these tend to break if over tightened.Around the camera lens is a very shiny silver bezel which turns to close the privacy iris, and around this is there is a diffused ring light which has 3 temperature settings, cool, warm, and natural, (not brightness settings), these are operated by a touch sensitive silver plate positioned within the diffuser. Directly opposite this plate and within the diffuser is a tiny pinhole which is where the microphone is situated. The camera lifts off the base on a pivot with a ball joint at the rear of the camera, this allows the camera to be adjusted up, down, left, and right. The angle of the pivot can also be adjusted to suit. It is fitted with a 140cm USB cable which should be plenty unless your computer is under the desk or on the floor, it is plug & play, no drives with it as they are automatically installed (Windows 10 & 11).In use: It’s not bad at all, the camera is fixed focus, (as far as I can tell), and you need to be at least 50cm away before you get a clear image but has good focus to infinity. The video is quite clear and bright although has a little ‘fizz’ to the image, the colours are a little weak but very natural, true, and well balanced. (These can probably be adjusted in software dependent upon your application). It does produce 1080p at the stated 30fps which is better than most but then again this is not a cheap camera. The field of view is about 65 and not 90 as stated in the manual. The only problem I had was that the silver bezel caused reflections on the video, this was noticeable with bright light shining through a window, you could clearly see a reflection of the window as though someone was reflecting it onto a wall. It’s not very noticeable and only with a bright lit scene.Overall, this is a very good 1080p webcam, unusual shape, bit of a rattly privacy cover.
