Original Book is better!
I had read the original novel that my son has a few years ago, I did not realize that this Edition was modified for "youth". What I found deeply disturbing is that apparently it was okay to read about outlaws shooting homesteaders, rustlers getting hung, and a litany of violence from the original book, but the part that was ommited was the story plot regarding Zech having a relationship with a Seminole womem, and having a son with her? By ommiting this relationship the story rings untrue!

A Land Forgotten
In A Land Remembered, Florida, a land forgotten, becomes a memorable quest of a family that started with nothing. Through blood, sweat, and tears, the beauty of the land and the cruelty of life come vividly alive as the years of hardships are turned into lifetimes of conquests over the perils that besieged them at every step of their journey from rags to riches on the Florida frontier. This book is filled with rich details about Florida’s history and it’s vast and exquisite land.

A tale of old Florida
My son read A Land Remembered Volume 1 in school and couldn't put it down, so I bought the sequel. He loved this one as well. It is set in 1800's to 1900's old Florida, discussing a family who made their fortune in cattle ranching then switched to orange growing after the father grew too old and weak to continue herding cattle. The writer uses language that is engaging to tweens and because there are mainly male characters my 11 year old boy remained engaged in the story. If you have read the first book, check out volume 2 to continue the story of this family. Adults will also like to read about old Florida!

Start with volume #1
Read it years ago. And have bought several since because I wouldn’t give mine up. I read it over every few years. Just be careful, it now comes in 2 volumes. Best if you read #1 first.

The saga of Florida history!
This is an extremely wonderful story of early Florida and the pioneers that blazed the path to what we have today. It is very entertaining and you live right with the characters for their entire lives and those of their children. It displays success earned by hard work and hard times. I bought this on my Kindle form amazon and I highly recommend it for you.
