NOT FOR MILLING! But does work...
Well...this things moves if you turn the handles attached to the axis leadscrews. But not with any finesse or precision. With that said. I gave it 2 stars instead of one because it's the cheapest cross slide "milling" drill press vice available. There are a couple other ones that are the same vise and are as much as 10 bucks cheaper. But you have $15 worth of shipping.Anyway...i decided it was a very poorly made vise when I spent 3 hours taking it apart to see if it was even possible to get it to work better. So starting with almost 80 thousandths worth of backlash on both slides. I took it completely apart and got to work...1st I smoothed out the very rough cut bed ways and dovetails with a rolloc pad and also polished them slightly with the same tool.2nd the fore/aft leadscrew nut just sits in a hole. So I drilled and tapped that and then shimmed it to line up with it's leadscrew. Next I polished the flat stock steel that is acting as the Gib. Then replaced all the hardware with quality grade 10.9 M6x1.00 bolts. After all this I was able to get it to backlash of 6 thousandths. Which from 80 is a miracle! It operates smoothly throughout the length of its axis.3rd I did all the same to the left/right axis. But the dovetails on this axis were not cut straight so the best I could manage Is 15 thousandths backlash. Which again is worlds better than 80. However because of the poorly machined dovetails. The further you move it to the right. The looser it gets. Creating all kinds of other issues. But it does do what it says it does...just not well.
