was watching the dick proenneke documentaries with my husband but this particular time he was even more moved and inspired by his works than he's ever been before. it was his birthday that day and i had gifted him some carving tools so he could start practicing woodworking as he's always wanted to. on a whim he asked if we could just go all out and get him all the things he will need to follow in his footsteps and we decided together that if we were going to go for it; we wanted quality. that is exactly what helko werk delivers. it is a solid piece, it is SHARP, and the dual leather sheaths it came with are such good quality on top of being handy. i love that this came with a booklet showcasing all of their tools and what their intended uses are, even more kind of them to include a bottle of head oil to keep it in good condition. i can tell that this is an axe that will receive a lot of love and use from my husband and will remain in the family for as long as there's an end to sharpen. thank you for the hard work and care put in to each piece, we will treasure it.

*Edit* It has been almost 2 years, I have used this axe for two full summer seasons as my go to RV camping axe. It holds a edge like a dream and it has enough weight to split fire wood or chop down a tree. I have had to do nothing but oil it and lightly touch up the edge. It still looks brand new.You do need to oil it and the handle but that is normal for any tool you use. I now give this axe a full five stars!. It is worth the money. *You can see my original post below.*I’m giving this axe 4 stars, not because of there being anything wrong but because I haven’t owned it long enough say how durable it is. That said it seems very well made and it does hold a edge very well. I have cut down several trees around my property with it. The axe split fire wood relatively easily.If you never owned a double bit axe the handle can be a little odd, but you will get used to it quickly. The weight is nice for cutting through trees or splitting wood.I would most defiantly recommend the axe.

This is a quality tool. The double sided ax is very sharp. The handle is made with the user in mine, strong and sturdy.It also comes with a nice snap leather sheath that covers both sides of the ax blades. With this ax they also provide honing oil for sharpening when needed. The ax is well packaged for shipping.
