I was looking for a smaller VHF antenna for my cruiser yacht that would replace a fiberglass whip and allow for more distance between helm and antenna. This is it! Testing after installation, amazing. The test range was done using the yacht helm VHF radio and a portable VHF radio. Quality of sound and distance range was impressive. It may be just over 6" but really "walks-the-dog" performance-wise. I highly recommend.

I added a marine radio to my freshwater fishing boat simply because that's what the guides use and I can eavesdrop on their conversations. I also have a programable handheld VHF radio I set up for channel 69 so my wife can reach me when I'm on the lake and she's in the campground. Works great for those applications. I can be several miles away across the lake and my wife and I can communicate.I'm not sure this antenna is 'legal' for maritime use in salt water/harbors and such, but that's not my application. Since I'm only using it in remote mountain lake locations, I don't care if my application is a legal use of the radio, the handheld or the antenna. Just know it will work to several miles of open water.

Very happy with the quality of the product. Be prepared to drill near 1" holes to route cable as the end connector is near 3/4" . If your using a grommet at your drilling points (as you should) you may have to drill larger. Nice sturdy bracket, great reception.
