One effective tool! Can't take extreme heat.
I live in central NJ. In 2020 we'd see one or two Spotted Lantern Flies per week. In 2021 we had an infestation of thousands in a single maple tree. Neighboring trees, including Maples did not seem to be impacted.Catchmaster helped us go from dozens of flies on each branch, to barely a dozen in the whole tree over a couple weeks.Tips:-Use *disposable* gloves to apply and remove. Cleaning this off garden or rubber gloves is an utter pain.-Investigate the band after rain or high winds that knock the Lantern Flies out of the tree canopy. They then fly to the base of the tree trunk and start their upward march to the adhesive, where they will create an enormous "traffic jam". Perfect time to spray.-Treat it as "bait & trap", then spray to kill. A quick shot of Household Ant Spray will kill dozens. After applying adhesive, we had a heat-wave with temps close to 100F. The adhesive melted off the plastic wrap and ran down the bark a few inches. Where it continued to trap flies, but less effectively.

Switched from Tanglefoot to Catchmaster
I manage a 100 tree orchard at our community garden in Southern California. We use natural insect control relying on natural predators to suppress damaging insects. Ants have a symbiotic relationship with the insects and will protect them from predators so it is important to keep them out of trees.I have been using Tanglefoot for 8 years which has been effective. Unfortunately the formula seems to have become more runny and has been seeping down and under the barriers damaging the tree bark. I switched to Catchmaster a few months ago and it seems thicker and much less runny. So far I have not seen any evidence of it seeping under the barriers but it will probably take a year before I am able to assess its effectiveness and safety.

Works like a charm.
I live out in rural eastern NC and we have a terrible problem w black biting and yellow flies. We made a little trap for them using this adhesive and man did it do its job!!! Within 8 hours of putting ithe trap out it caught about 50 of them. Revenge is sweet!!!

Sticky, sticky,sticky!
This stuff really works but you have to be careful with it. You cant load it up when its hot out, it will run very slighty. Use a good backing on the tree and then use the spreader that comes with it and dont iver apply. This will sure stop lantern flys in their tracks, but it will also stop anything else like, bees, wasps, mosquitoes. I plan on purchasing more in the spring before the nymphs emerge.

Sticky Mess
This seemed to be a cheaper alternative to the sticky tape. Not worth it. It is a sticky, gooey mess that is difficult to spread on a surface. Used one full container on a 24” d tree. By the end of the season, it had floated down about 12”. Very few lantern flies were in the substance. Do not waste your money.
