Review: I'm an eighteen year veteran special education teacher who is new to co-teaching. This book explains the different methods used in co-teaching and offers some instructional strategies. Questions are found at the end of each chapter for your team to discuss which can be helpful with the hard conversations that seem to be part of the growing process of co-teaching. I would strongly suggest reading this book and discussing the ideas with your co-teacher well in advance of the first co-taught class so you are better prepared for the reality of this type of teaching. Co-teaching is a challenge and both teachers need to be willing to be flexible so that all students can be successful. Review: Just what I ordered and needed.

Anne M. Beninghof's Co-Teaching That Works is packed with applicable information. As someone who was not familiar with Co-Teaching, I feel I got everything I needed to know to be well versed on the subject in it's multiple forms (even defined different per state as noted in book). It's filled with examples, charts, questions, everything one (or shall I say two) teachers (and/or specialist) would need to co-teach. Anne M. Beninhghof provides solutions, plans, and her writing style is easy to comprehend and organized. What you'll find in this book: 1. An Overview of Co-Teaching (what it is, research, benefits). 2. Relationship Buliding: Common Challenges and Effective Solutions 3. Implementation (classroom composition, planning time, grading, evaluation) 4. The Duet Model 5. Lead and Support Model 6. Speak and Add Model 7. Skills Groups Model 8. Station Model 9. Learning Style Model 10. Parallel Teaching Model 11. Adapting Model 12. Complementary Skills Model 13. Co-Teaching with a Technology Specialist 14. Co-Teaching with a Special Education Teacher 15. Co-Teaching with a Speech/Language Pathologist 16. Co-Teaching with an Occupational or Physical Therapist 17. Co-Teaching with a Paraeducator 18. Co-Teaching with a Gifted Specialist 19. Co-Teaching with a Literary Specialist 20. Co-Teaching with an ELL Specialist 21. Conclusion: Evolving Partnerships Each chapter has a variety of examples, worksheets, tables, pros and cons, and ends with thought provoking questions and a bullet points summary. I will keep on hand as a great resource.
