Brilliant memoir!
This is a fantastic book. The author shares his unique experiences in a very honest and straightforward way. This is a great book for kids and adults too! I loved it, the writing and storytelling are wonderful! Highly recommend.

for my son's summer reading
this was a selection to read for the summer for his school. He loved the book, read it in a few days. Enjoyed the story and now is rereading it for the summary. Kids will enjoy.

Heartwarming and moving
I read this book with my young son. It really helped him understand how hurtful comments can be to others.

Great story, but lacks engagement
I was excited to get this book, thinking it would be a great read aloud for my 4th grade students. It seemed like the next Wonder, and I was thrilled to find it. While the author has been through so much and the story could be used to encourage kids to see the person behind someone who looks different, the writing is really not engaging. When I read it, it didn’t make me want to keep reading to find out what happened. In fact, I kept finding excuses to do something else instead of reading it. I will add it to my school library and encourage kids to read it to broaden their minds, but I will not be boring my students by using it as a read aloud.

A real role model for everyone
Best book I have ever read in my life. It is so inspiring I am going to buy copies to give to my family.A true inspiration to everyone and I would urge everyone to read it. I have read loads of autobiographies and self help books but read this book it is all the inspiration anyone would ever need. Just bought 5 copies of paperback for xmas presents and pleased with my choice.

Definitely not a misery memoir
I read this book as our book club choice so I had no idea what to expect. I was delighted to find it was beautifully written - and definitely not a misery memoir as the title might imply. Robert does not have a trace of self pity and tells the story of a fairly normal childhood in a way that makes you want to keep on reading. Thoroughly recommended.

Read and reread
I bought this for my 9 year old and she has read and reread it. She loves to tell me all about how Robert Hoge handled all the different situations he faced and apply the learning to her own life. She is now very busy owning her face!

The greatest inspiration one ever needs!
I simply love this book! There is no denying, people judge other people on the first physical appearance. But due to today's social conditioning and the suggested importance of attractiveness, we mightoverestimate the intensity of this first-impression-estimation.Robert is a great man who shows that a physical condition to his one or a similar one comes with a big challenge, but this challenge can be overcome by lots of courage and tremendous inner strength.Robert is a living role model in the context of accepting yourself as you are and just living the life with inner peace and great happiness - a true inspiration and a real hero! Thanks for this book and I am highly recommending it :)
