BepuzzledCoil Hanayama Metal Brainteaser Puzzle Mensa Rated Level 3, for Ages 12 and Up

Solved in a couple of hours

This is the first Hanayama puzzle i have been disappointed with the construction. I could not get the puzzle to move at first then i read that the first requires force. Children would not be able to nake the first move on mine. After solving the puzzle i took a flat file and filed all the inside edges of rough edges. Now it moves freely. I liked the puzzle and shape in fairness to the puzzle idea.

I’ve owned and enjoyed many puzzles over my lifetime. Hanayama has been my go-to for beautiful, brilliant, inexpensive puzzles. I picked this one up because it looked unique and this thing just ticks all the boxes. It is truly a masterclass in puzzle design and execution. It’s compact, well made and challenging while not impossible or too frustrating. Once it ‘clicks’, it is incredibly satisfying and endlessly repeatable and ‘fidgetable’. It’s everything I look for in a puzzle.

What I love about this puzzle is that casually looking at it gives you almost no feedback as to how close you are to completing it. Even looking very closely it's very difficult to understand what options you have. So its visual feedback is hard to get, but the tactile feedback is incredible. The way the pieces are molded makes the turning and moving extremely satisfying, and fidgeting with it gives you more information than you can get by looking at it. Even after solving it, it's still fun to play with and it's become my go-to ADHD fidgeter.

All ages enjoy putting this puzzle together and taking it apart

This puzzle wasn't hard and isn't visually stunning. It feels very "middle of the road" in all aspects. Not bad, but not good. Not beautiful, but not ugly. Not easy, but not hard. It just leaves me with a neutral feeling all around. Still a nice addition to the collection.

I messed with this puzzle for a week not being able to get anywhere. I didn't want to look at solutions and ruin my chance to solve it myself, but finally I threw in the towel.Here's the thing: the first move on my device anyway was super sticky and required more pressure than I've been 'trained' to assume a puzzle should require. Luckily I stopped the solution video before anything was given away. I think Hamayama puzzles are among the most wonderful things in physical form on earth, but I'm not sure the worksmanship was what it could be here.Then again maybe part of the puzzle is to figure out you have to jam it to the first step. It does kind of snap in that spot. Still it took some my enjoyment out of this puzzle.
