A little confusing at first, but definitely worth pursuing...
At 18, Lireinne Hooten doesn't feel she has much going for her. As a high school dropout, the only job she can get is hosing the barns at the local alligator farm. Her mom abandoned her years ago, and her stepdad, who always seems to be working, can't get them out of their tiny trailer. Then - largely due to a horrible incident - Lireinne finds herself promoted. Now she's the personal assistant of Con, the farm's attorney, making more money than she ever dreamed.Yet Con - a man with one failed and one failing marriage under his belt - has ulterior motives for hiring Lireinne.Meanwhile, Con's ex Emma is struggling against mental health issues resulting from the end of their decades-long relationship. Con's current wife, money- and status-obsessed Liz - is already growing unhappy with him, despite only being married a year and a half. This story is built around the voices of all of these people, alternating and sharing a bit more about what makes them tick with every chapter. At first, it's a bit jarring - you just start getting to know a character when another pops up, and you can't quite see how they all connect. But Conner clearly knew what she was doing. This book will pull you in and leave you wanting more when you're done.

A Great Read!
After reading Amy Conner's THE RIGHT THING, I had to read another of hers and I really enjoyed this one and all the characters. I especially liked the character Emma and the way all the characters managed life.

Truly Inspirational!!!!
This is an excellent book that I highly recommend. Million Dollar Road is a truly inspirational and thought provoking read. I loved how Ms Conner developed the characters and how they were affected by the central character Lireinne. The story is uplifting and I would even love to read a sequel. Thank You Ms Conner for sharing your talents with readers.

Great read!
From the moment I began this book, I could not put it down. Ms. Connor paints an accurate picture of the South where everything is extreme-- the poverty, wealth, characters, hope and futility.

Disappointed
Love seeing parts of my city portrayed in the book! The story was slow to start and had me hooked until the author took the plot off the deep end. The main character started acting out of character!

Great story
I loved this book. It was both what I expected and totally unexpected if that makes any sense. Well worth the time!

A good read and a good, clean story
The intrigue in this book feels natural and right. It provides a nice peek at a family as every member grows and changed

Book Club
This was a selection made by one of the ladies in my book club. I didn`t think I would like it at all, since it begins in a barn full of alligators. But this is not the story. It is an exciting book and the author shows much insight in people.
